Spring Kenai river rainbow trout fishing has been excellent. This year I have been swinging streamers and dead drifting flesh flies for the most part. The best bite has been earlier in the morning and slowing down by mid afternoon. If a day of fly fishing for rainbow trout on the Kenai river interests you give us a call. We have our favorite spots dialed in for you and will give you the best opportunity possible to hook a fish of a lifetime. Fly fishing trips on the Kenai river are 275.00 per person with exclusive boat prices available.
Here are a few pictures of some of the nice fish we have caught this year.

When the fishing is good on a kenai river trip there is little time for sitting around. Here Kim and Jeff are excited about a great net job on a sockeye salmon.
A Good kenai River Trip for Sockeye Salmon should be scheduled for the middle of June and from the middle of July until the second week in August. Fishing for Sockeye Salmon begins in June on the Kenai river and will last until mid august some years. There are two runs of sockeye salmon on the Kenai river. The first run which is known as the russian river run of sockeye salmon which opens on June 11th and usually peaks around the 20th of June. The second run of sockeye salmon will start filtering in with the end of the first run and should peak around the middle of July. The second run of fish in many recent years has brought hundreds of thousands of fish into the system. Usually by the second week in August the fishing has passed its peak for sockeye salmon and we are moving on to rainbow trout and silver salmon fishing.
If you are in for a fun and exciting Kenai river trip lets chase some sockeye salmon. We will get to one of my favorite gravel bars in either a drift boat or power boat and set up for a great day of fishing. The limit of sockeye salmon per person per day is 3 unless fish and game releases an emergency order to allow more fish to be harvested. When this happens it usually goes up to 6 per person.

Kenai peninsula fishing guides are on the river fishing hard every day. We know the water and know the fish that we are pursuing. When visiting the Kenai peninsula you can’t go wrong hiring a guide for a day or two to get some valuable information on local knowledge of the water you would like to fish. I guide for a living and have for a long time now but whenever I go someplace new to fish I hire a guide for the first day or two to get some insight on what is going on. There is nothing wrong with this and it will make you more successful on your trip. Where ever you come from it is going to take quit a bit of traveling to get the Kenai Peninsula to go fishing. A couple of planes and a few hours in a rental car if you are coming from out-of-state and possibly if you are traveling from in the state too! The Alaska fishing season is over for us here at Drifting on the Fly now. The cool 5 am mornings are now replaced with well below freezing temps, wind and snow now for months ahead. My 2012 season is over here in Alaska and I look forward to next years Alaska fishing season already. I
While getting my gear in order for the long winter ahead I was able to slip out and enjoy the kenai river for a couple afternoons. The fishing was incredible and I hated to leave it.
Here are a couple pictures from my last day on the Kenai river fly fishing for rainbow trout and steelhead my last few days of the 2012 season.
I caught this steelhead on the Anchor river using a six weight z axis switch rod
Brian of Wilderness Way looks a little chilli as we motor back up stream for another drift. We had an epic day on the river today and I look forward to getting back out there next spring. Who knows maybe there will be a 20 Pound fish on the end of my line next time?
