Guided Kasilof River King Salmon Fishing

Guided Kasilof river King Salmon fishing has been good.  Lots of take downs,  a few fish coming unbuttoned and plenty of fish landed.  Water levels are in very good shape and it’s looking to be a great year for King Salmon fishing on the Kasilof River.  King salmon fishing is also picking up on the Kenai river too.  I have mostly fished the Kasilof river this week but have a few trips are booked for on the Kenai river coming up soon. kasilof-kings-001 kasilof-kings-002 Here is one of the fish we boated on yesterdays adventure with our guide service.  These bright King Salmon are hard hitting and make screaming runs. Most of the fish caught in the last few weeks have had sea lice on them.  This is a good sign of fresh fish in the river. Remember King Salmon season ends at the end of July so it is not to late to get your spot on our boat. You can contact us at www.driftingonthefly.com to book your next guided fishing trip on the Kasilof or Kenai river! Guided Kasilof river fishing trips are 275.00 per person and we can accommodate parties up to 20 people. Tight lines, Scott sager

Kasilof River Salmon Fishing Guide

Today’s report from your Kasilof river salmon fishing guide. Every day has shown improvement and more and more fish are hitting the river.  I believe that this coming week will be the best of the first run of King Salmon.  We’ll just have to be out there and see what happens.  Bait is still producing more fish that plugs for my boat.  With the water level coming up more and more everyday I’ve switched to a larger set of hooks and am now running a longer leader for my eggs and spin and glows.  Larger fish are starting to come into the river, we had one get off the hook today that may have reached 40-45 pounds? kasilof-king-salmon-fishing-013 kasilof-king-salmon-fishing-012 The weather has been awesome, 65-80 degrees on the river this week thus far and not a cloud in the sky!  We hope it continues? Days are long still and there is lots of fishing opportuities on the Kenai peninsula. Kenai peninsula fly fishing trip

anchor river, alaska When on a Kenai peninsula fly fishing trip on small rivers for King Salmon  make sure that you try to spend most of your time in a run that will concentrate fish.  These fish are moving upstream with the tide so moving around the stream can just waste time.  Getting out there ahead of high tide and hang out until the outgoing, this can be the most productive time. Good runs are popular during the peak of the season so staking out your sweet spot in advance is very important. fly fishing the anchor river, alaska The Anchor river can be a very productive fishery but for those early season king salmon you may have to put your time in.  Be patient and maybe you’ll pick up a mid May fish on the Kenai Peninsula! I have seen days where we get a good push of fish that each angler hooks multiple fish.  Once you have decided to harvest a fish you must quit fishing.  If you choose to practice catch and release you can fish as long as you would like.   For more information on a guided king salmon trip on the kenai river or surrounding water contact us here anytime. Shenandoah Valley fly fishing

I had a chance to get home and fly fish in the Shenandoah national park and Shenandoah valley  for a couple of days.  Shenandoah valley fly fishing involves a lot of hiking, wade fishing and or drift boat fishing.  The weather was OK and the fishing was great.  I only had a couple of opportunities to get out with the boys from www.murraysflyshop.com but when I did it was on. va-2009-009There is nothing big about the trout in Shenandoah nation park but native fish that are thousands of years old and readily taking dry flies makes this fishing as fun as any I have ever done.  The beautiful mountain streams can put the most seasoned fishers into a trance. We fished the Rapidan river in Madison county VA on this trip but there are over 50 fish able streams in the park! va-2009-017 Guide John Colman with a nice small mouth on the North Fork of the Shenandoah river.  Though the water temperature was colder than we would have liked the fish still cooperated.  We caught Small mouth bass, Large mouth bass, sunfish and fall fish. If you are interested in taking a fun, fish filled trip in the Shenandoah valley I highly recommend that you check out www.murraysflyshop.com. We are back in AK and start our season here may 16th!  King Salmon fishing should be good and if you are looking for an Alaska vacation for 2009 make sure you check us out at www.driftingonthefly.com Tight lines, Scott sager

Kasilof River Guide

If you are looking for a good, dependable, and knowledgeable Kasilof river guide, look no further! I have spent many days through out the last 8 years studying and fishing the Kasilof river.  We will put you in the best runs that we can and give you the best opportunity to catch a fish of a lifetime.  King Salmon on the Kasilof river can be a challenge to catch but with some patients and good coaching I am confident that you will have a successful trip.

This week proved to be another good week for the Kasilof River for King Salmon fishing.  The Dewey family did some back trolling out of the drift boat on Monday with me and this fish flat out smoked us.  It hit a smaller pink cheater with a little glob of cured eggs.  The river has finally come up to normal level and we have had to start fishing with size 40 jet divers.  This kasilof river is mainly a terminal gear fishery but it is still a drift boat only river which makes for a relaxing day.

Congrats to Eric and Kelly we wish you two the best and good luck with the upcoming wedding.

thanks guys and see you next year

Kenai River Guide Trip

KENAI RIVER SOCKEYE SALMON

A popular Kenai river guide trip is for Sockeye Salmon, We offer many fishing opportunities in July and August for sockeye salmon.  Some of the best gravel bars are accessible on the middle kenai river.  We fish here almost exclusively during the peak of the sockeye salmon runs. We look for the Sockeye salmon fishing to pick up in the next few days also. Usually by July 14th the fishing is very good.  Limits are 3 per person a day until the escapement is reached and then it is usually bumped up to 6 per person!

Second run king salmon are here.  Fish have been showing up in good numbers now and you should be able to snatch on to a king if you put the time in.  Both the Kenai and Kasilof have fished well for me the last couple of days.  Quick fish worked best on the Kenai river and Spin and glows with a glob of eggs have been best on the Kasilof river for us.

If you are interested in a King salmon guide trip  or sockeye salmon guide trip on the Kenai river or Kasilof river feel free to contact me at www.driftingonthefly.com

Thanks and good fishing

Guided Kasilof King Salmon Fishing

Guided Kasilof King Salmon Fishing trips are offered in May, June, and July.  Today We set out again today to try to match wits with another King salmon on the kasilof river. We had a slow start with a few Dolly Varden caught and a few missed opportunities with some king Salmon. Ahead of the tide we stuck this fish! After what seemed to be a 30 minute struggle Terry brought this beautiful King Salmon to the net. I was a great day to see a lady from the east coast that has not fished much be so proud of her catch and she should be.  Big King Salmon can put a real stain on you and the equipment.  Sometimes it take a few drift to hook up but when you do it is very exciting to battle a King Salmon.

Nice job Terry and we’ll try again tomorrow.

Guided fishing trips are 275.00 per person and exclusive boat packages are available upon request.  Exclusive boats are a great way to keep the trip personal for the days fishing.  Check out more on our website at www.driftingonthefly.com and just maybe you could be next to hook up on a Kasilof river guide trip!
