CLEANING KENAI RIVER KING SALMON

There are many ways of cleaning kenai river king salmon and this is just one of them.  A great way to remove scales from a big king salmon is to use a power washer. Some good friends of mine showed me this a few years ago and it will work on any fish that you wish to remove scales before filleting.  This will cut down on weight for shipping and keep your fillets “fishy” smell to a minimum. 100_1684 Use the power wash before you gut or do any cutting to the fish for the best results. Try it on your next salmon and see if it work for you too.  It is the sportsman’s responsibility to take care of anything that you harvest and I seem to learn more about different ways to take care of my harvest every year.  For filleting king salmon I prefer a stiffer blade for cutting down along the backbone but then I switch back to a more flimsy blade when it is time to remove the ribs from the fillet. We hope this help and if you have any questions or would like to book your next Kenai River King Salmon fishing trip give us a call. Tight Lines Scott Sager

Kasilof River Salmon Fishing Guide

Today’s report from your Kasilof river salmon fishing guide. Every day has shown improvement and more and more fish are hitting the river.  I believe that this coming week will be the best of the first run of King Salmon.  We’ll just have to be out there and see what happens.  Bait is still producing more fish that plugs for my boat.  With the water level coming up more and more everyday I’ve switched to a larger set of hooks and am now running a longer leader for my eggs and spin and glows.  Larger fish are starting to come into the river, we had one get off the hook today that may have reached 40-45 pounds? kasilof-king-salmon-fishing-013 kasilof-king-salmon-fishing-012 The weather has been awesome, 65-80 degrees on the river this week thus far and not a cloud in the sky!  We hope it continues? ANCHOR RIVER KING SALMON FISHING

Anchor river king salmon fishing can be crowded so I prefer to fish in the middle of the night.  Most anglers are in camp or limited out for the days fishing and that’s when I head out onto the water.  Fishing on the Kenai peninsula often means that you will be near other anglers while you are on the stream.  If someone hooks up and is fighting a fish, it is common courtesy that you take your line out of the water and allow them to land their fish.  Be sure to give them room and not to crowd in while they are releasing the fish or moving back into position.  I’ve found that it doesn’t take long to get to know people on the river and for the most part everyone is willing to work together.  Help in doing your part in keeping the streams a positive place for everyone. Anchor River, King fishing Fishing for King Salmon in the spring is popular on the Kenai Penisula. hooked up And this is why!  Sometimes the fishing can be so hot that multiple people are hooked up at the same time.  When this happens, good luck and remember to do your best to keep others in mind.  Give us a call today to line up your next kenai river guide trip or to get away a back country fishing guide trip. SILVER SALMON FISHING ON THE KENAI RIVER

driftingonthefly.com

Silver Salmon fishing on the kenai river has been excellent this week.  The best proven fly has been a purple leach pattern for the water conditions that we have been fishing.   You might have to weed through a couple fish to put a chrome one in the boat.  This late in the season the fish that entered the system earlier are starting to stage to spawn.  When a silver salmon is hooked up it will take big runs and cartwheeling jumps it is all good.  I’ve found that a slightly upstream cast and a big mend with a very slow retrieve has got the most bites. Silver salmon can be aggressive but I find a slower presentation out fishes a fast sporadic presentation most days.   Anywhere on the Kenai river with a slow pocket should be holding silver salmon.

We will continue to take booking for silver salmon fishing on the kenai river until the end of October.  Weather conditions are sometimes colder and daylight hours are not as long but the fishing can be excellent in October for both silvers and rainbow trout! Contact us here for a silver salmon guide trip on the kenai river.
