Kasilof river fishing

Kasilof river fishing continues to be good for us. Between the steelhead fishing and the king salmon fishing the days have been passing by way to fast. The kasilof river is starting to rise with runoff now and I know the steelhead fishing will not last much longer. Maybe a week if I am lucky. We will have to wait until the fall to see the acrobatic hard fighting fish again.

Kenai River Rainbow Trout Fishing

June 11th is the day that the entire Kenai River is open to rainbow trout fishing.  We will start our season off fishing the Middle Kenai river in a drift boat until the 15th of June.  This allows us to fish in a preferred section of the river that is closed to the use of power boats.  Once the river opens up to the use of motors in this section we will then offer guided trips with the power boat.  Drift boat trips will still be offered if this is your preferred boat to fish out of or if we are fishing in the Upper Kenai river.  Both Boats are effective ways to pursue Kenai river rainbow trout. kasilof river drift boat powerboat1           Kenai river Rainbow trout fishing will continue to be good through the end of June.  In July the rainbow trout fishing tends to tapper off a little but then picks back up again in early August.  In August September and October Kenai River rainbow trout fishing will continue to be good.  The Kenai river offers excellent opportunities for trophy fish on both fly and light tackle.  Our Guide service will supply all tackle, flies, waders (if needed), rain gear (if you do not have your own) and rods needed for your trip.  We also will have water, hot coffee, and snacks on board.  You will need: sunglasses, extra layers of clothing, a packed lunch, and a valid fishing license for the day. Along with guided Kenai river rainbow trout fishing trips, we also offer guided king salmon fishing, silver salmon fishing, sockeye salmon fishing, dolly varden fishing, arctic grayling fishing, and steelhead fishing depending on the time of the season.   All of these species of fish make for an exciting adventure in Alaska.  I fish most every day during the South Central Alaska fishing season and take great pride in showing a quality trip to our guests.  Give us a call or contact us here on the site and we will get you lined up on a great fishing trip on the Kenai Peninsula or surrounding areas here in Alaska. Kenai peninsula steelhead fishing

One of my favorite things to do on a day off is to hit up the kenai peninsula steelhead fishing.  We have a few hours to drive and catch up after a long fishing season and reflect. We arrive in the parking lot and there are a few anglers still out but not many, get our waders on and hit the river. The weather is defiantly colder now and the fishing has been so good. Soon after we start we hit the first fish and another in just a few hours we took a break and talked about how good of a day we were having. We nymph fished all day and between the two of us were able to dredge up almost two dozen fish.  In Alaska I have had quit a few days where over a dozen fish were landed in the party but we haven’t had to many days where a couple dozen fish were landed.  This is truly a special place and Here are a few pictures of some Kenai peninsula steelhead. 20121019-100931.jpg A good high stick will keep less line on the water and your drift drag free.  Doing this will bring you more strikes during your fishing trip. 20121019-100945.jpg Keeping steady pressure on a fish will give you less chances of the hook falling out. 20121019-101007.jpg Scott Sager with a nice kenai peninsula steelhead 20121019-101015.jpg Most of our walk and wade steelhead fisheries on the Kenai peninsula close to fishing on nov.1 this year. If you need a last minute fix make sure to give us a call, I would love to share a day like this with you as well. Tight lines Scott Sager

This morning the bite was on in a few holes and we just happened to be there while it was going on. 20120913-171544.jpg This Steel head was hooked and released in very shallow water.  When approaching any body of water make sure you take a second to look and see if any fish might be close enough you could spook by just walking up to the edge of the water.  You might be making your first couple of cast standing back in the bushes to not spook these fish 20120913-171533.jpg 20120913-171522.jpg Once you have covered the water closer to shore then you can make your way further out into the stream.  Most of the Kenai Peninsula steel head fishing is done in smaller streams and rivers. They are easily accessible and in most places you can wade across the river.  This makes it nice for chasing those big ocean run steel head up and down the river too!

STEELHEAD FISHING THE KENAI PENINSULA

Steelhead fishing the Kenai Peninsula has been the best I have experienced this fall! The fishing continues to be great and as of right now the stream levels are perfect. We have seen days on fly out trips and on the Kenai peninsula of hooking up to 40 fish a day for the group.  Fish have been taking leeches on the swing and egg patterns on the dead drift.  The dead drift seems to be the most effective for us.  Our patterns used have been tweaked over the last 10 years and are proven in rivers throughout the state and in many rivers in the lower 48 now.  Average fish are around 30 inches and many fish are caught in the 35 inch range every year.   If you are interested in a guide trip on the kenai peninsula feel free to look us up.  I offer both walk in and drift boat fishing for steelhead.  Fly fishing or spin opportunities are available to get you hooked up on an acrobatic fish. Exclusive guided rates are available if you want to keep your group small and personal. Tight Lines, Scott Drifting On The Fly, LLC

KENAI PENINSULA STEELHEAD FISHING

alaska steelhead fishingKenai peninsula steelhead fishing trips are offered for both the fly angler and the light spin tackle angler.  Drift boat trips and walk and wade trips are our preferred ways to pursue these hard fighting fish.  Warm clothing, hand warmers and perseverance have paid off recently on the Kenai Peninsula Steelhead fishing streams. Beads or leeches fished dead drift or down and across streamer style with a Teeny 200 if the streams are too high. In other words – typical finicky Steelhead fishing but the catching has been good.  The steelhead run seems to be steady and the only thing that gets in the way is ice in our guides though the last few days haven’t been that cold though. The middle river section of the Kenai continues to be great for nice, fat rainbows trout.  The dolly Varden are mostly gone now, off to do the spawning thing up the tributaries. So it is just you, the silver salmon, and the rainbows trout as far as fishing on the kenai river in concerned. Booking a kenai peninsula steelhead fishing trip with us is easy.  Give us a call and we will work with you to design a trip that is perfect for you. Tight Lines, Scott Drifting On The Fly. LLC

Our guide service will supply waders, rods, and other tackle you will be responsible for your lunch and fishing license. alaska steelhead fishing The Kenai Peninsula steelhead fishing has been excellent this month.  I have spent the last two days chasing these gear thrashing fish and have seen a lot of fish hooked.  The folks from Murrays’ fly shop felt right at home in these smaller streams and fell right into getting fish on the line.  It can be trying if everything is not just right but when it is on, the action is fast and furious.  The big fish for the trip was about 30″ and within our group we saw about a dozen fish.  The weather seems to be holding and fishing should continue to be good through the end of Oct. Hope to see you on the river and if you have any questions feel free to contact me anytime. Tight Lines, Scott Drifting On The Fly, LLC
