Kasilof river boat launch

The kasilof River boat launch is where we will meet for a day of King salmon, Silver salmon or steel head fishing on the Kasilof river.  Parking our drift boats at the kasilof river boat launch can be a tricky job during the busy season.  Drift boat fishing is a relaxing, quiet and productive Way to pursue king salmon. 20120618-083722.jpg When arriving at the Kasilof river boat launch make sure you make your way to the river and find you guide as soon as your ready.  I can get a little congested during the fishing season with limited room to park your boat.  I will give you my drift boat number which is 607, the boat number is a very easy way to find the guide your looking for.  Most guides at the Kasilof river boat launch are friendly and willing to help you find the boat that you are looking for.  Fortunately the amount of boats at the Kasilof river boat launch is no wheres near as many as launching out of the kenai river so the search will not take to long to get into the right boat. Girdwood Alaska

Girdwood is located 38 miles from anchorage, you will pass by Girdwood on you way to the Kenai peninsula if you are driving.   This Tesoro station in Girdwood is the last place to get gas and a snack before your drive through Turnigan pass.  The next place to get gas will be Moose pass which is 60.5 miles or Cooper landing which is 63.8 miles.  Either way make sure you have a full tank of fuel before headed through the pass. Girdwood is best known for Alyeska ski resort. If you have time check out the double Muskie, this is a very good place to eat dinner on the way.  I highly recommend it. 20120616-154437.jpg There is always something going on in Girdwood Alaska from skiing to music festivals, It’s on your way to the Kenai Peninsula and might be interesting for you to check out if you have time.  There isn’t much fishing going on here but it is worth checking out if you have never been.  If you are staying in Girdwood and are looking for a fishing trip you will only be a few hours from the Kenai river so don’t count that out of your trip.  If you are traveling long distances to meet up with us we will take this into account and work with you on the scheduled start time. Drift boat anchor

If you ever loose an anchor and don’t have a spare, improvise by using a rock as a drift boat anchor. This guy said he just prefers a rock anchor over a lead anchor so he uses it all the time! 20120613-171008.jpg Guided Kasilof river king salmon fishing trips are a lot of fun.  You never know what you are going to see or experience. Swinging flies for king salmon and steel head on the kasilof river.  Spey rods make the job of fishing big rivers a little easier. 20120613-151528.jpg Kasilof river (located just 12 miles from Soldotna) fly fishing for steel head can be very good.  I offer drift boat and walk and wade trips for steel head in the spring.  If you are looking for a quality trip look no further than a guided Kasilof river fly fishing trip with us.  Best timing to catch these hard fighting, gear burning fish are from late april until the second week in June. give us a call to book your next Kasilof river fly fishing trip

Rainbow Trout Season

Today is the Rainbow Trout season opener on the Kenai River, June 11th. Get out your smolt and flesh fly patterns and enjoy some potentially great rainbow trout fishing. This is a great time of year to pursue trout, they are hungry and willing to take traditional flies, which is always a lot of fun. The mouth of the Kenai River from Skilak lake five miles down stream is closed to all motorized vessels until June 15th! This is set into place because of the trumpeter swans that are nesting in the area. If you are interested in taking a guided fishing trip on the Kenai river, feel free to contact us anytime at www.driftingonthefly.com or at 907-382-6808.

IZAAK WALTON BOAT LAUNCH

DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO IZAAK WALTON BOAT LAUNCH IN STERLING, ALASKA View IZAAK WALTON OR MOOSE RIVER BOAT LAUNCH in a larger map Most trips meet here for Rainbow trout, Silver Salmon and sometimes King salmon fishing trips. Izzak Walton boat launch in located at the moose river bridge in Sterling Alaska. The Izzak walton boat launch and state park has a very nice campground, picnic tables, and outhouses.  This is one of my favorite state park facilities located on the Kenai river.  The Moose river dumps into the Kenai only a short distance from the boat launch.  It is a slow and shallow river and makes it very nice for launching a boat.  There is also some great silver salmon fishing here as well when they are running.  It is a toss up between meeting here or at bings landing.  It usually depends on how busy the boat launch is at bings.  If we are headed up river it takes about 15 minutes to pass bings launch up and head on to skilak lake.  This is worth it if the wait to launch at bings is very long. Guided Kenai River Trip Rate $250 per person *LARGE GROUPS WELCOME *LODGING PACKAGES AVAILABLE *EXCLUSIVE BOAT PACKAGES -2 PERSON EXCLUSIVE STARTING AT $750.00 A DAY -3 PERSON EXCLUSIVE STARTING AT $950.00 A DAY Hope this helps out and we are looking for ward to fishing with you this year!
