Alaska Fly Out rainbow Trout Fishing

Alaska fly out rainbow trout fishing trips are really something to look forward to. I leave tomorrow on a 7 day adventure in Bristol Bay for trophy rainbow trout and king salmon fishing. This is a personally designed trip for the HARD CORE, adventurous fisherman that wants to get the most out of there experience. We will be in state of the art tents, comfortable 18 ft. rafts and eating like kings. On this adventure we will be floating 72 miles of river, starting in the high country and ending up in dense, forested country near where the Nushagak River starts. From the wildlife to the fish that haven’t seen a fly in a year or more, we expect to do very well on this trip. Grayling, rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, chum salmon, king salmon, and northern pike are all expected to be seen on this trip. There is lots of planning involved in a trip like this so if you are interested in putting a back country trip of a lifetime together in the bush of Alaska make your plans with our guide service early. We will only fish up to 6 people on two rafts on our back country trips to ensure a personal trip that you are never going to forget. Guided Kasilof River King Salmon Fishing

Guided Kasilof river King Salmon fishing has been good. Lots of take downs, a few fish coming unbuttoned and plenty of fish landed. Water levels are in very good shape and it’s looking to be a great year for King Salmon fishing on the Kasilof River. King salmon fishing is also picking up on the Kenai river too. I have mostly fished the Kasilof river this week but have a few trips are booked for on the Kenai river coming up soon.

Here is one of the fish we boated on yesterdays adventure with our guide service. These bright King Salmon are hard hitting and make screaming runs. Most of the fish caught in the last few weeks have had sea lice on them. This is a good sign of fresh fish in the river. Kasilof River Salmon Fishing Guide

Today’s report from your Kasilof river salmon fishing guide. Every day has shown improvement and more and more fish are hitting the river. I believe that this coming week will be the best of the first run of King Salmon. We’ll just have to be out there and see what happens. Bait is still producing more fish that plugs for my boat. With the water level coming up more and more everyday I’ve switched to a larger set of hooks and am now running a longer leader for my eggs and spin and glows. Larger fish are starting to come into the river, we had one get off the hook today that may have reached 40-45 pounds?

The weather has been awesome, 65-80 degrees on the river this week thus far and not a cloud in the sky! We hope it continues? Guided Kasilof river King Salmon fishing has been very good this week. Though we are having to work hard for the fish that we do catch.

These chrome Kasilof river king salmon where caught on the incoming time on both plugs and spin and glows with cured salmon roe. Tides heavily influence our start times in the morning. Kasilof river king salmon fishing

kasilof river King Salmon Fishing has really picked up. In early June the river is still low and fish are concentrated in different holes in the river.

Landing a Kasilof river King Salmon sometimes requires getting out of the drift boat. We will do our best to put you in a position to get your catch into the net.

Tagging your license is the first thing you have to do once you decide to harvest a king salmon. In June, when kasilof river king salmon fishing you are allowed to harvest two king salmon a day. One of which has to be a hatchery fish or both can be hatchery fish.

You have to love the long sunny days in June and why not be on a productive king salmon river while you enjoy them. An 18 inch leader with spin and glows have been working best for my boat. 1st run King Salmon on the kasilof are often between 15 and 30 pounds. Plugs are producing fish also. Homer Alaska Halibut Fishing

A day in Homer Alaska halibut fishing when you are visiting the Kenai Peninsula can be very rewarding and add some weight to the fish box. My saltwater captians and I have been working together for a few years now and he has never shown a client a bad trip. Yesterday I had a chance to take my uncle Fred Sager out and even in inclement weather he still worked to get us into nice halibut.

A few average fish and a couple of nicer fish made for a good box of fish for my Uncle to take home a share with the family. On a trip out on the boat make sure, even if the weather is nice that you take plenty of extra cloths. Saturday could have been miserable if we were not dressed properly!

After getting your halibut in the box if time allows Tim will try to get you into some king salmon when they are available. Nothing like a Captain will to go the extra mile for you when your on a trip of a lifetime! Shenandoah Valley fly fishing

I had a chance to get home and fly fish in the Shenandoah national park and Shenandoah valley for a couple of days. Shenandoah valley fly fishing involves a lot of hiking, wade fishing and or drift boat fishing. The weather was OK and the fishing was great. I only had a couple of opportunities to get out with the boys from www.murraysflyshop.com but when I did it was on.

There is nothing big about the trout in Shenandoah nation park but native fish that are thousands of years old and readily taking dry flies makes this fishing as fun as any I have ever done. The beautiful mountain streams can put the most seasoned fishers into a trance. We fished the Rapidan river in Madison county VA on this trip but there are over 50 fish able streams in the park!

Guide John Colman with a nice small mouth on the North Fork of the Shenandoah river. Though the water temperature was colder than we would have liked the fish still cooperated. We caught Small mouth bass, Large mouth bass, sunfish and fall fish. KENAI RIVER RAINBOW TROUT

When fishing if I have the opportunity to get above a hole and watch for a minute, I take full advantage. Spotting Kenai river rainbow trout is difficult in the glacier tented water but it can be done. Watching over a gravel bar can be the most productive. Early in the spring rainbows on the kenai river will cruise in search of food, so look for flashes, anything that is moving, and dark objects that just don’t belong. Polarized sun glasses really help in this situation.

We spent a few minutes watching this gravel bar, being above it gives you a real advantage in spotting fish.

This is a picture lower on the gravel bar, you can see how the higher you get the better the chance of spotting a fish. I have been watching fish move on and off of it for a few minutes now. It’s time to get a line wet. Take the time on your next outing to just watch for a minute and you’ll be surprised on how many fish you start to see. Redoubt Ash

After 7 eruptions Mount Redoubt Ash finally makes its way to Anchorage. The winds have been very cooperative thus far keeping most of the ash to the south and west of anchorage.

If you have to drive during any ash fall it is a good idea to put pantyhose over your air filter. This will help keep harmful dust out of your engine.

We are hanging close to the house tonight and hopefully this little bit of ash fall is all we get. Get out your dust masks! Redoubt has effected Drift River which is near the volcano. Drift river is an anadromous stream, so it will be interesting to see how it effects the returning salmon runs. KENAI RIVER FLY FISHING

Every spring while I’m out KENAI RIVER FLY FISHING I look for Terns gathering on the river. Finding terns hoovering over the river more than likely means Parr Salmon have made the transformation to smolt and are heading out to sea. In the spring Parr salmon undergo a chemical change that lets them adapt from freshwater to the saltwater where they will spend the next few years of their life. These large moving balls of smolt trigger feeding frenzies for fish and birds too. Look for smolt in April, May, and early June and get ready for some exciting Rainbow trout fishing experiences. For Salmon Parr I like to use a small white deceiver in a size 6 or 8 streamer hook and for the smolt I like to use a blue and white deceiver in tied on a 4 or 6 streamer hook.

This pattern works well for Parr imitations. Tied with: 4 small white saddle hackles tied in first. White buck tail tied in on the top side of the shank 2 strands of copper flash on each side of the body 4 pieces of peacock tied in on top of that A black sharpie will give you the parr markings that you want on the body I chose to give this fly an epoxy head with big silver eyes.
