Kenai River Rainbow Trout Fishing In October

Kenai River Rainbow Trout Fishing in October is a great time to get out and experience the river. The crowds are starting to dwindle and the water levels usually are doing the same.  The weather can get cold and snow will be in the forecast more than likely but the fish will be there. Being new to fly fishing, Sam handled this fish like a pro.  Great Job! When the tempuratures drop we will not remove the fish from the water so there isn’t as high of a mortality rate.  Please respect this and we will do our best to get a quality picture of you catch.  If we plan on harvesting a silver salmon this rule doesn’t apply! Grayling are not a common fish in the Kenai river but we do catch one every once in a while.  Today was the exception, we caught one 8″ arctic grayling today.  Grayling will move into the kenai river later in the season to find food before the long winter sets in. October fishing on the kenai river can be very productive.  Silver salmon are spawning now and the Rainbow trout move right behind them to feed.  If you would like a late season guide trip on the kenai river contact us anytime. KENAI RIVER GUIDE TRIP

kenai river rainbow trout fishingThere are many kenai river guide trip opportunities available.  Rainbow trout, dolly varden, king salmon, silver salmon, sockeye salmon and many more.  We offer both fly and spin fishing trips so no matter how you would like to pursue these beautiful fish we can accommodate you. We also can provide drift boat and/or power boat guided fishing trips. Fall and early winter brings my favorite fish to chase to our nearby waters,  giant rainbow trout on the kenai river and Silver salmon.  The rivers along the Kenai peninsula are now starting to lose water and the fish are gearing up for the cold months ahead.  Finding big rainbow trout, fresh steelhead and silver salmon isn’t a problem as much as keeping the guides on your rod open from ice.  We are still chasing some really big fish now and I hope you are too.  Our guide service continues to run trips until the end of October, weather permitting.  All you will need is some warm cloths, waders (we can provide them), a packed lunch, and a fishing license. If you are interested in a late season kenai river fishing trip contact us here.

SILVER SALMON FISHING ON THE KENAI RIVER

driftingonthefly.com

Silver Salmon fishing on the kenai river has been excellent this week.  The best proven fly has been a purple leach pattern for the water conditions that we have been fishing.   You might have to weed through a couple fish to put a chrome one in the boat.  This late in the season the fish that entered the system earlier are starting to stage to spawn.  When a silver salmon is hooked up it will take big runs and cartwheeling jumps it is all good.  I’ve found that a slightly upstream cast and a big mend with a very slow retrieve has got the most bites. Silver salmon can be aggressive but I find a slower presentation out fishes a fast sporadic presentation most days.   Anywhere on the Kenai river with a slow pocket should be holding silver salmon.

We will continue to take booking for silver salmon fishing on the kenai river until the end of October.  Weather conditions are sometimes colder and daylight hours are not as long but the fishing can be excellent in October for both silvers and rainbow trout! Contact us here for a silver salmon guide trip on the kenai river.

Timing your Kenai River Fishing Trip

Timing your Kenai River fishing trip depends on the species that you primarily want to pursue make sure.  For instance if you would like to go after Kenai river sockeye salmon you would want to book you guided trip with us in late July or early august.  There are overlapping peak dates for multiple species as well.  Like king salmon and a sockeye salmon trip can both be booked during the peak season for both species.  This would happen at the end of July.  These dates go fast so book early to insure that you get the dates that you are interested in.   A Tip for Netting a sockeye salmon on the kenai river.  Always net a fish by head first.  This way you have the whole fish in the net and if it makes another run it will run into the net or swim out without pulling the hook. If you aren’t interested in netting your own sockeye salmon feel free to give our kenai river guide service a call anytime.  We will do our best to put every legal fish on the bank for you! Hope this helps and good fishing www.driftingonthefly.com Scott Sager

FLY FISHING RAINBOW TROUT ON THE KENAI RIVER

kenai river rainbow troutFly Fishing rainbow trout on the Kenai river can be a great guided trip.  We offer many trips on the Kenai but specialize in finding bit trout on the fly.  Fish like these aren’t landed everyday but are hooked often.  Every once in a while a fish cooperates and an angler does everything right and we are able to put a big fish in the net.

King Salmon are starting to really starting to drop their eggs now and trout fishing the kenai river is heating up.   The Rainbow trout are moving around and finding dinner at the the hottest spawning ground these days. The river should be full of eggs within the next week..!!! Think of any other trout fishing you know and match the hatch except with beads and flesh flies instead of may flies and stone flies.  Just like any fishing pay attention to what’s happening in the stream and you’ll have a more productive day on the water.

Guide trips are available and Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our kenai River guide operation or what is going on with the Kenai River.

Thanks and tight lines,

KENAI RIVER KING SALMON FISHING

kenai river king salmon Kenai river king salmon fishing should be something you do on your visit to the kenai peninsula in July!  Many fish are caught every year over 70 pounds and a 50 pound fish in not uncommon.  The Kenai River is big and runs fast in the summer months.  We have power boat so that we can rework the runs and if you prefer to fish out of a drift boat we can accomodate that as well.  Kenai River King Salmon Fishing out of a drift boat is a lot of work but very doable.  We landed this big kenai river king salmon out of my 18 foot Willie drift boat. Today After a day of guiding trout and Sockeye Salmon fishing on the kenai  river my buddy Ben Hancock and Dan Wikner arrived with perfect timing.  We unloaded the guide boat and grabbed the private boat to set out for a short drift on the Kenai between River Quest and Pillars boat launch.  Mid way through my friend hit his first king salmon ever and for sure one to remember! Good job Ben!!!! We are taking bookings for  kenai river King Salmon fishing Trips now.  Give us a call and we will work with you to design a trip that fits your vacation schedual. Guided Kenai River King salmon fishing

RICH KETTERMAN KING SALMON Guided Kenai River King salmon fishing has been excellent!  The Kenai river produce a few fish for me today but this was the first catch of the day at 7:00 am.  The last two weeks in July have in the past produced some of the best king fishing of the season and I am pumped up to see what happens next.   We’re fishing harder than we should probably but with the potential of fish like this I can’t keep my boat out of the water.  We run full day guided kenai river king salmon fishing tips for 275.00 per person and will put you in the most productive runs that we can.  I personally like to back troll my best running plugs and spinners below soldotna bridge in search of a trophy king salmon.  If you are interested in hunting the largest of the pacific salmon on the kenai river make sure you give us a call. For Information on how you too can try your luck with kings salmon on the Kenai River in Alasaka with our fishing guide service check out our website at www.driftingonthefly.com. KENAI PENINSULA GUIDED FISHING

Kenai peninsula guided fishing for Trophy Rainbow trout fishing combined with sockeye salmon fishing makes for a fun day.  Kenai river king salmon fishing is also available at this time of year. The Sockeye Salmon fishing should pick up again near the end of the  first week of July and be good through the second week of Aug.  That has been the norm for the last few years.  These are hard fighting fish with a built in instinct to trash gear you can plan on some excitement.  If you plan to chase these fish on your own make sure that you put a little extra in your gear so the odds of getting them to shore gets a little better. The  Rainbow trout bite has been very good while fly fishing leeches and minnow imitations.  I like to fish a down and across drift right now with a sink tip line.  The water has been very clear but is now coming up with just a little color. In the bigger water the larger leech patterns show up better and produce the most strikes.  If you have any questions feel free to contact me at www.driftingonthefly.com for your next guided kenai river trip. Thanks and tight lines Scott Sager
