KENAI PENINSULA GUIDED FISHING

Kenai peninsula guided fishing for Trophy Rainbow trout fishing combined with sockeye salmon fishing makes for a fun day.  Kenai river king salmon fishing is also available at this time of year. The Sockeye Salmon fishing should pick up again near the end of the  first week of July and be good through the second week of Aug.  That has been the norm for the last few years.  These are hard fighting fish with a built in instinct to trash gear you can plan on some excitement.  If you plan to chase these fish on your own make sure that you put a little extra in your gear so the odds of getting them to shore gets a little better. The  Rainbow trout bite has been very good while fly fishing leeches and minnow imitations.  I like to fish a down and across drift right now with a sink tip line.  The water has been very clear but is now coming up with just a little color. In the bigger water the larger leech patterns show up better and produce the most strikes.  If you have any questions feel free to contact me at www.driftingonthefly.com for your next guided kenai river trip. FLY FISHING FOR KING SALMON

Fly fishing for king salmon can take some patients but play your tides and look for pushes of fish to come by. The King Salmon are starting to show up in real numbers now.  I took this fish on a blue and chart. Marabou fly, Size 3/0.  A dead drift worked for this guy but sometimes you can get them on a few short strips at the end of the drift. This is good fishing and if you to would like to try your luck with a King Salmon feel free to contact me at www.driftingonthefly.com for your next guide trip.

FLY FISHING FOR KING SALMON

RICH KETTERMAN KING SALMON Fly fishing for king salmon on the Kenai Peninsula! How about a few busted knuckles? I narrowly escaped with mine intact yesterday while . We were fishing about 100 yards from the saltwater and when I hooked him, he decided he didn’t like the fresh water anymore. I have to say that I have never had any fish, run that hard in the fresh water!  This king salmon took an olive articulated egg sucking leach at the end of the swing. The fishing has been great this time of the year. The King Salmon are starting to increase in numbers though it has taken a little while for them to get going. It has been a cool Spring in South central Alaska and this affects everything, even the salmon run. This has however been my most productive Spring season with a fly rod for King Salmon though and I can only hope it keeps going that way. Are you interested in learning how to fly fish for a few tackle busting King Salmon? Give me a call 907-382-6808 and we can arrange for that to happen in short order on your next kenai peninsula guide trip with Drifting on the Fly! Tight Lines, Scott Sager Drifting On The Fly, LLC

KASILOF RIVER KING SALMON FISHING

Kasilof river King Salmon fishing is getting good now.  On a guide trip  last Tues. and took a beautiful fresh 20lbs. King salmon.  We had a few other hits and caught a few Dolly Varden, Steel head, and flounder in the tidal water.  Things are looking up and the fishing should only get better on the kenai peninsula. Silver Salmon Fly Fishing

copy-of-600.jpg

When I think of Salmon on the fly rod I think Silver Salmon fly fishing.  The fishing typically gets good by mid to late July on some of our fly out fishing and mid Aug. to the end of Oct. on the Kenai peninsula and the kenai river.  In the right conditions silver salmon will take the fly very aggressively.  I’ve even had many opportunities to take these fish on top water.  Bunny flies, articulated flies, marabou flies, leaches, spoon flies, etc. are just a few patterns that will work well for these fish.  I find a slow strip in slow water or swinging your flies in faster water draw the most strikes.  I prefer a strip set or scissor strike to set the hook.  This way if you miss the fish you don’t pull the streamer out of the strike zone and often the fish will come back to give you a second chance.  If you are fishing from a boat make sure you fish the fly all the way back to the boat.  I see fish chasing all the way to the boat for a last chance strike. If you are interested in matching your skills with these fish make sure you contact me at www.driftingonthefly.com and we’ll get you lined up on a alaska fishing guide tip. copy-of-picture-054.jpg

Kenai river king salmon fishing is  worth the wait! Kenai river King Salmon can be tough to catch and harder to land but with time put in and a little luck it can come together too.  This past year I had the opportunity to have my father in the boat in the first of June.  It is early season and on the first pass we netted this big 51 inch king salmon out of a drift boat with no motor.  Sometimes you can catch a fish right off the bat and other times it can take a day or two.  That’s what keeps us fishing but by Keeping your gear in good shape and always remember to gear up with fresh line.  You never know what will be tugging at the other end. If a Kenai river King salmon fishing guide trip is on your must have list, feel free to contact me and we’ll get you lined up. kenai River King salmon trips are 275.00 per person and we have both drift boat and power boat options for your days fishing. King Salmon

Book your King Salmon fishing trip with us today.  Booking King salmon trips on the Kenai river and Kasilof river.  We have Drift boat, power boat and wade fishing trips available!  The cost of a guided fishing trip for king salmon is 275.00 per person for full day fishing trips and 200.00$ per person for half day fishing trips. RICH KETTERMAN KING SALMON The King salmon bite has been slower over the past couple of days though we are catching a few, a couple of them have been very nice fish over 40 pounds.  We are focusing on the Kasilof river now since the Kenai River is getting so much preasure.  From reports that I have gotten the Kasilof river is fishing better right now anyways.  To give anglers the best opportunity we have been spending most of our time in the tidal water looking for fresh fish that are pushing in.  I look for the King Salmon to push in the river in good numbers any tide now.  The Kenai river Rainbow trout fishing has been good and keeps on improving the closer we get to the King salmon spawn.  By the middle of August the bite should be off the hook.   We are taking bookings for the rainbow trout and silver salmon fishing this fall.
