Alaska fly out fishing

Alaska fly out fishing is one of the best ways to see the state and to get into some of the best fly fishing waters in the world. Today we fished for arctic grayling in a high mountain setting. The folks caught over a hundred fish with some reaching 16-17 inches. On a 4 weight fly rod with 6x tippet, the larger fish put up an excellent struggle. Some won and some didn’t. All of them were put back unharmed for the next group though! If you are interest in some of the best grayling fishing that i have found on the fly or light spin give us a call anytime. 20130727-085315.jpg20130727-085330.jpg20130727-085322.jpg20130727-085359.jpg 20130727-085434.jpg 20130727-085442.jpg 20130727-085455.jpg 20130727-085503.jpg 20130727-085516.jpg Prices vary depending on the length of the flight.

Kasilof river fishing

Kasilof river fishing continues to be good for us. Between the steelhead fishing and the king salmon fishing the days have been passing by way to fast. The kasilof river is starting to rise with runoff now and I know the steelhead fishing will not last much longer. Maybe a week if I am lucky. We will have to wait until the fall to see the acrobatic hard fighting fish again.

Alaska fly out fishing

The trip was a success yesterday. The day started off by walking the river, fishing our way down down stream. Fishing was very slow until the tide change in the afternoon. Once this happened fishing was excellent. I didn’t get any pictures of fish today because there was so many bears around. Once the fish showed up the bears showed up. The guys couldn’t believe the experience they where getting and came back with some heavy poundage of silver salmon.  We are off to fish rainbow trout on the Kenai river.  The number one policy of any remote Alaska fly out fishing trip is safety first fishing second.  If you are on a fly out with us and bears approach the stream to fish we will back off until they are a safe distance away.  This will ensure that they don’t look to humans as a source of a easy meal and we disturb their natural habits as little as possible. Fly Out Fishing Trip

A fly out fishing trip in Alaska is a bit more expensive due to the cost of the flight but if you are interested in fishing around more bears than people this is sometimes the only option.  The group and I showed up just a little early this morning at the flight service for our fly out fishing trip. I like to have time to go through my gear one more time before take off And not be in a rush. Today’s weather outlook is great. It should be as good of a day as you can get for flying in the Alaska mountain. We are headed out to chase silver salmon on the fly today. The tide and timing should be excellent for being successful but no matter what the trip will be beautiful. 20120829-072323.jpg   20120829-072336.jpg 20120829-072352.jpg 20120829-072403.jpg Tim from Natron air in Soldotna Alaska has flown me out with guest many times now. He has a well maintained, clean and reliable plane.  It’s quit an experience landing on a beach in the middle of no where.  Depending on where we fly will determine if we use a wheeled plane or a plane on floats. I will report in on the trip when we get back after we get back. Tight lines Scott Sager Www.driftingonthefly.com

Fly out fishing

Booking a fly out fishing trip can have its ups and downs! Yesterday I was supposed to fly out from anchorage with a buddy to do some rainbow trout fishing on a remote stream. As it often happens in Alaska the weather shut us down. We never got off the ground. It’s disappointing but the reality is that good decisions before you leave just might keep you out of a bad situation. I enjoy taking people into the back country but sometimes even on a personal trip we have to back out. When booking your fly out fishing trip with us please understand that the weather controls 95% of our ability to get out. It’s a lot of fun when we do and if you are interested in an exciting day of salmon, rainbow trout, cutthroat or steelhead fishing in the back country give us a cal at 907-382-6808. 20120628-174803.jpg A picture of Kimberly ready for take off on a back country trip last year, Kim has had the opportunity to fly out on the Kenai peninsula, western Alaska, South east Alaska, Prince William sound, and on kodiak island. tight lines, Scott Sager www.driftingonthefly.com 907-382-6808

backcountry fishing

I have the day off today and am heading out with a buddy on a back country fishing trip for  rainbow trout today. A short 30 minute flight out of anchorage and you can be in some great remote trout waters. I’ll give a report and a few pictures later on how it was! 20120627-113019.jpg This picture of our camp was taken along the Sag river near dead horse Alaska. Arctic char and grayling can be found here in good numbers when the water is flowing.  When traveling north to fish make sure you have your timing right.  There are many factors into getting the most out of your backcountry fishing trip.  Weather, time, money, timing, and so on.  Research your trip before talking to a guide service so that you have some knowledge of the timing of the runs and average weather condition for when you would like to go.  For instance king salmon season closes on the night of the July 31st on the Kenai river but in a lot of the systems king salmon season closes much earlier than July 31st?  This might help with the timing of your vacation if you really want to fish for king salmon.

Bristol Bay float trip

The fishing on the Bristol Bay float trip for 6 days was great!  Everyone returned to Anchorage with a few sore.   Dry flies, Mouse patterns, and streamers all produced Arctic Grayling, arctic char and  Rainbow trout. Here is a picture of one of the guys with a trophy sized Grayling taken on day 2 of the float. fishing bristol bay Look for many more photos of this trip to come in the future.  I love to put together special trips like this one for groups that are willing to take on the adventure.  Remote Bristol bay float trips take some planning so if this sounds like something that interests you make sure that we start planning it early in the year.  We have great rafts and top of the line gear that is provided for the adventure.  All you need is a fishing license,  personal items and a sense of adventure.  We will take care of the rest for you. Alaska Fly Out rainbow Trout Fishing

Alaska fly out rainbow trout fishing trips are really something to look forward to.  I leave tomorrow on a 7 day adventure in Bristol Bay for trophy rainbow trout and king salmon fishing.  This is a personally designed trip for the HARD CORE, adventurous fisherman that wants to get the most out of there experience.  We will be in state of the art tents, comfortable 18 ft. rafts and eating like kings.  On this adventure we will be floating 72 miles of river, starting in the high country and ending up in dense, forested country near where the Nushagak River starts.  From the wildlife to the fish that haven’t seen a fly in a year or more, we expect to do very well on this trip.  Grayling, rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, chum salmon, king salmon,  and northern pike are all expected to be seen on this trip.  There is lots of planning involved in a trip like this so if you are interested in putting a back country trip of a lifetime together in the bush of Alaska make your plans with our guide service early.  We will only fish up to 6 people on two rafts on our back country trips to ensure a personal trip that you are never going to forget. I will not be able to get back to emails or phone calls until the 25th of June starting tomorrow.  Don’t hesitate to leave a voice mail or send an email if you are inquiring about a trip and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can! mouse-pattern-001 Big Bristol Bay rainbow trout often take mouse patterns viciously in the spring before the salmon show up.  We plan to do very well on patterns such as this one! If your interested in booking a like this or a guide trip on the kenai river give us a call and we’ll work closely with you to make it happen!
