The view from a kenai river boat launch this morning. My gear is in order and the sun rise is worth sharing. Looking up the Moose river under the sterling highway bridge at 5 am reminds me that fall is well on its way. Clear skies and cooler temperatures will turn the landscape into autumn in days now not weeks. We are Headed out Kenai River rainbow trout fishing and silver salmon fishing today, we will start off casting fly’s for the silver salmon and when the sun gets up higher after lunch we will search for rainbow trout.
Booking a combination fishing trip with us is easy, give us a call and let us know what you would like to do on your next fishing trip and we will hook you up. I will meet you at one of the kenai river boat launches and take you out for a great day on the river.

I got my flask back today from getting engraved! On the back I am planning on engraving your name on it when you catch a 30″ rainbow trout or better and/or a king salmon 50#’s or better. Over the years I haven’t kept as good of track of this accomplishment as I should have and in the future you can bet that I will never forget another one! I know lots of you that are following this blog have fished with me before and am asking you to give me a call, text or email if you have caught a extremely big fish on tape with me and i will be happy to add you to the half gallon flask club!

We were just shy of a limit today but that didn’t matter to these folks. We had a great day on the kasilof river and even barbecued some fresh silver salmon on the boat today!
Give us a call for your next Kasilof river silver salmon fishing trip and we will custom build a package for you that suites your expectations on the Kenai peninsula and beyond!

The guys enjoying a nice cigar on the Kenai river after a big lunch.
Alcohol is permitted on our boats but not in excess. We do not provide any alcoholic beverages.
Sometimes it’s not all about the fish although these guys caught a lot of Kenai river rainbow trout and dolly Varden. The Kenai rive is an excellent place to get away from it all and get back to spending the day doing something for you, and possibly hooking the ONE! June, August, September and October can be very productive months for rainbow trout fishing and just relaxing on the kenai river. If a guide trip is in your future feel free to give us a call at 907-382-6808 or contact us through the site. Prime dates go fast so booking early insures your days that you would like to reserve.

Kasilof river silvers and kenai river trout fishing combo
Got a quick limit of silver salmon yesterday morning on the kasilof river bouncing eggs in the tidal water. The group was interested in some fly fishing so we put the drift boat up and took the power boat out on the Kenai river rainbow trout fishing. The little extra effort really paid off with some big fish!! This isn’t something we do every day but if there is time we are happy to go the extra mile for you.
Bright sunny days often put the rainbow’s off the bite. Today was an exception to that! When salmon start dropping eggs into the system all bets are off and it should be fish On.
Trout salmon combo days can be a lot of fun and a lot of work as well. If we change up gears and switch systems extra half day rates will apply for the afternoon trip. If you would like to get in on a day like this give us a call at 907-382-6808.

We were on the kasilof river silver salmon fishing this morning. Back trolling plugs and cured eggs trying to get in front a good push of fish. A change in the weather from yesterday for sure. Bright sunny skies have us wearing sun scream in layers instead of rain jackets!! It’s a ladies trip today and they are a riot! We’ve caught a few silver salmon and a lot of pink salmon.
A few more hours are left in the day to bring in a limit for the girls. I hope it happens for them.
This chrome bright silver salmon put on a real show for us. It cart wheeled 4 times before coming into the net. Silver salmon are the number one choice for many anglers. The ladies have been coming to alaska for many years and prefer the fishing for the silver over any other species of salmon that they have fished for. I have to say whatever I am fishing for at the moment tends to be my favorite fish to pursue? I enjoy meeting new people and fishing, it’s the perfect job.
If you would like to give the Kasilof river a shot for silver salmon give us a call or contact us through the site and we will hook you up!
No matter the style of equipment you choose to use, keeping a good steady pressure is key to landing your catch.
A solid 24 inch kenai river rainbow trout caught today.
I look for the rainbow trout fishing to be great all the way until freeze up this year. If you are interested in a day on the water this season or would like to talk about a future trip give us a call at 907-382-6808 or check our website out at drifting on the fly!
Off to fish the kasilof river in the morning for silver salmon.

Wayne is eating again, I think he should fish more!
Rigged up and waiting at a kenai river boat launch to go rainbow trout fishing on the Kenai river this morning! Will report back tonight
Beers by the campfire last night in Sterling Alaska. Days are getting shorter but in the middle of August you know that it is still late when the sun goes down. The dogs are loving it and what a great way to spend an evening. Being laid back and enjoying good company is living life here in sterling Alaska. In sterling Alaska there is camping, horseback riding, hiking, conoing, fishing, boating, and many other things to do on vacation. Troy and lisa have some great trail horses and we are discussing which trail we should go riding on in a few weekends. The upper end of the swanson river is also accessed through sterling alaska. If you are planning to conoe the swanson river trail system give us a call. We have done this trip many times and are willing to give any advice that we can. Off to work in the early morning so I’d better be heading to bed!
Rainbow trout and silver salmon season is here!! The Kenai river is producing some good first run silver salmon this year and the trout fishing has been epic.
