Shenandoah Valley fly fishing

I had a chance to get home and fly fish in the Shenandoah national park and Shenandoah valley  for a couple of days.  Shenandoah valley fly fishing involves a lot of hiking, wade fishing and or drift boat fishing.  The weather was OK and the fishing was great.  I only had a couple of opportunities to get out with the boys from www.murraysflyshop.com but when I did it was on. va-2009-009There is nothing big about the trout in Shenandoah nation park but native fish that are thousands of years old and readily taking dry flies makes this fishing as fun as any I have ever done.  The beautiful mountain streams can put the most seasoned fishers into a trance. We fished the Rapidan river in Madison county VA on this trip but there are over 50 fish able streams in the park! va-2009-017 Guide John Colman with a nice small mouth on the North Fork of the Shenandoah river.  Though the water temperature was colder than we would have liked the fish still cooperated.  We caught Small mouth bass, Large mouth bass, sunfish and fall fish. If you are interested in taking a fun, fish filled trip in the Shenandoah valley I highly recommend that you check out www.murraysflyshop.com. We are back in AK and start our season here may 16th!  King Salmon fishing should be good and if you are looking for an Alaska vacation for 2009 make sure you check us out at www.driftingonthefly.com Tight lines, Scott sager

ANCHOR RIVER KING SALMON FISHING

Anchor river king salmon fishing can be crowded so I prefer to fish in the middle of the night.  Most anglers are in camp or limited out for the days fishing and that’s when I head out onto the water.  Fishing on the Kenai peninsula often means that you will be near other anglers while you are on the stream.  If someone hooks up and is fighting a fish, it is common courtesy that you take your line out of the water and allow them to land their fish.  Be sure to give them room and not to crowd in while they are releasing the fish or moving back into position.  I’ve found that it doesn’t take long to get to know people on the river and for the most part everyone is willing to work together.  Help in doing your part in keeping the streams a positive place for everyone. Anchor River, King fishing Fishing for King Salmon in the spring is popular on the Kenai Penisula. hooked up And this is why!  Sometimes the fishing can be so hot that multiple people are hooked up at the same time.  When this happens, good luck and remember to do your best to keep others in mind.  Give us a call today to line up your next kenai river guide trip or to get away a back country fishing guide trip. Tight lines and have fun, Scott Sager www.driftingonthefly.com

KENAI RIVER DRY FLY FISHING

THERE CAN BE SOME VERY GOOD KENAI RIVER DRY FLY FISHING.  June is a great month to be in the middle of some great caddis hatches in Alaska.  Smaller rivers and lakes on the Kenai peninsula have been the most productive when I am look for Rainbow trout on dry flies.  Also look at the side channels of the Kenai river, there are some  great place to find some rainbow trout eager to take a dry fly. Once the salmon show up in good numbers you can fish a dry fly all day long and never have a trout look up.  When you do find fish looking up make sure you have a few caddis patterns to fall back on. elk-hair-caddis-001 I’m a huge fan of peacock hurl, I mix it into most of my favorite patterns. elk-hair-caddis-1 Brown or olive caddis patterns in a size 12 is a go to for us in June. Have a great time tying and we’ll catch you next time, give us a call to book your next Alaska Kenai river guide trip and if the timing is right we will dry fly fish the Kenai river for rainbow trout! KENAI RIVER DRIFT BOAT FISHING

Kenai River Drift Boat Fishing is a great way to pursue King Salmon or any of the species that we fish for.  It is a lot of hard work but the reward in landing a trophy fish with no power is great. Every Monday in June and July the Kenai river is closed to fishing with a motor on board and no sticker-ed guide boats are allowed on the river.  Kenai river drift boat monday is really nice to get out there and fish for King Salmon with no noise, only a  few wakes, and lots of friendly people.  I didn’t have a booked trip today on the Kasilof river so my buddies and I set out early for the last drift boat Monday of the year.  We missed a few fish and lost 2 really big fish (really big) and landed these two chrome King Salmon.  Fishing was good for the most part and the river was a pleasure to be on today! Only 3 more days left in the season. There can be some down time to king  Salmon fishing so it is easy to take in the scenery but when one of these bruisers takes the bait hold on and let the excitement begin!  Check out more pics and information on our website at www.driftingonthefly.com for booking information  or to contact us. We look forward to fishing with you soon. Tight Lines, Scott Sager

KENAI RIVER KING SALMON FISHING

kenai river king salmon Kenai river king salmon fishing should be something you do on your visit to the kenai peninsula in July!  Many fish are caught every year over 70 pounds and a 50 pound fish in not uncommon.  The Kenai River is big and runs fast in the summer months.  We have power boat so that we can rework the runs and if you prefer to fish out of a drift boat we can accomodate that as well.  Kenai River King Salmon Fishing out of a drift boat is a lot of work but very doable.  We landed this big kenai river king salmon out of my 18 foot Willie drift boat. Today After a day of guiding trout and Sockeye Salmon fishing on the kenai  river my buddy Ben Hancock and Dan Wikner arrived with perfect timing.  We unloaded the guide boat and grabbed the private boat to set out for a short drift on the Kenai between River Quest and Pillars boat launch.  Mid way through my friend hit his first king salmon ever and for sure one to remember! Good job Ben!!!! We are taking bookings for  kenai river King Salmon fishing Trips now.  Give us a call and we will work with you to design a trip that fits your vacation schedual. FLY FISHING FOR KING SALMON

Fly fishing for king salmon today and Larry Tumblin hooked up to what turned out to be a 35 lb. King Salmon this Summer. 10 wt. fly rods and sinking lines and heavy leaders did the trick. What was the fly? Stay tuned – I will show you how to tie it this fall, once things slow down.
www.driftingonthefly.com
Fly fishing for king salmon can be one of the most frustrating things to do or it can be fast and furious.  We have spent a few days in search of  king salmon on the fly for a special group from the east coast and finally hit the sweet spot.  The guys have hooked up on quit a few fish but the fish haven’t been playing very fair.  I like to use a 10 weight or bigger for king salmon and more times than not I wish I had a 12 weight.  The fly’s are big and the lines are heavy.  A heavier rod makes for a more comfortable days fishing and when you do have a 35+ pound fish on it gives you that much more back bone to get the fish to shore.  for more information about our alaska fishing guide service contact us here: Contact We are the right guide service for you if you are in search of fly fishing for king salmon Tight lines, Scott Sager

Guided Kenai River King salmon fishing

RICH KETTERMAN KING SALMON Guided Kenai River King salmon fishing has been excellent!  The Kenai river produce a few fish for me today but this was the first catch of the day at 7:00 am.  The last two weeks in July have in the past produced some of the best king fishing of the season and I am pumped up to see what happens next.   We’re fishing harder than we should probably but with the potential of fish like this I can’t keep my boat out of the water.  We run full day guided kenai river king salmon fishing tips for 275.00 per person and will put you in the most productive runs that we can.  I personally like to back troll my best running plugs and spinners below soldotna bridge in search of a trophy king salmon.  If you are interested in hunting the largest of the pacific salmon on the kenai river make sure you give us a call. Kasilof River Guide

If you are looking for a good, dependable, and knowledgeable Kasilof river guide, look no further! I have spent many days through out the last 8 years studying and fishing the Kasilof river.  We will put you in the best runs that we can and give you the best opportunity to catch a fish of a lifetime.  King Salmon on the Kasilof river can be a challenge to catch but with some patients and good coaching I am confident that you will have a successful trip.

This week proved to be another good week for the Kasilof River for King Salmon fishing.  The Dewey family did some back trolling out of the drift boat on Monday with me and this fish flat out smoked us.  It hit a smaller pink cheater with a little glob of cured eggs.  The river has finally come up to normal level and we have had to start fishing with size 40 jet divers.  This kasilof river is mainly a terminal gear fishery but it is still a drift boat only river which makes for a relaxing day.

Congrats to Eric and Kelly we wish you two the best and good luck with the upcoming wedding.

thanks guys and see you next year
