Kenai river salmon fishing

20120722-203734.jpg Kenai river salmon fishing starts early in the day and will last eight hours on a full day trip.  We will coordinate on the meeting place and start time prior to the fishing trip. Running up the Kenai river in the early morning can be chilly, even In July! Remember to bring a few extra layers to remain comfortable. Also sunglasses and a favorite hat is highly recommended. 20120722-203958.jpg Once we arrived on the gravel bar we quickly warmed up with some great kenai river salmon fishing! A limit of reds are harder to find early in the season but with persistance and good techniques you should be able to put some fish on the bank. After a day of good fishing for sockeye salmon these anglers will be headed home with some salmon and memories of fishing the Kenai river. There are still a few seats available for rainbow trout, silver salmon and sockeye salmon (reds) left for the 2012 season give us a call at 1(907)382-6808 if you are planning getting out and doing a little kenai river salmon fishing on your vacation to the Kenai peninsula. Kenai river sockeye salmon fishing

After a solid two weeks of Kenai river sockeye salmon fishing, we’ve done well about every day. I have notice that the for the amount of reds that fish and game clams that are in the Kenai river the fishing hasn’t beenis as epic as it should be. It’s not bad but I am wondering were these huge numbers are? Yesterday six of us fished for 8.5 hours and managed to get our limit of 18 sockeye salmon. The fishing was consistent and we probably hooked 30 more fish or so and released some fowl hooked fish too. 20120720-075343.jpg July weather couldn’t be better here on the Kenai Peninsula and fresh fish are everywhere.  Hiring a guide will help you get to more productive gravel bars and allow you to get a little space in between other groups of fisherman as well.  Once you are dialed in on the techniques you will be able to hook sockeye salmon during the peak of the run with ease. If you are looking for a day of Kenai River sockeye salmon fishing contact us through our site or give us a call.  We are happy to get you lined up and it is our mission to provide you with a quality experience.

Kenai river sockeye salmon fishing

Kenai river sockeye salmon fishing has been excellent! The Kenai River got a push of just under 120,000 sockeye salmon yesterday For a total of around 200,000 fish for the second run. These are great numbers of fish and getting a few shouldn’t be a problem for the next few weeks!!! This morning I had a great crew and they had there fish in just a few hours. Once you have your limit of  kenai river sockeye salmon you don’t have to quit fishing.  We can then pursue other species like rainbow trout and dolly varden. 20120717-095835.jpg A nice limit of fish like this will keep your freezer stocked up with fresh sockeye salmon for months, if you book multiple days of fishing you could have salmon to eat throughout the year. If you are interested in having a lot of fun and spending some time on the kenai river sockeye salmon fishing give us a call at 907-382-6808 or check us out online at www.driftingonthefly.com!

Kenai river sockeye salmon fishing

Started the day of with a father daughter and father son kenai river sockeye salmon fishing trip. The kids were out of bed early and happy the be going fishing. We pulled into a good gravel bar on the Middle Kenai river to start our fishing trip Fish pushed by steadily and we managed to get a few. With a little assistance the kids each got a couple fish. 20120714-130006.jpg Young anglers enjoy Kenai river sockeye salmon fishing as much as anyone.  What a great fishery to start off your fishing career! 20120714-130056.jpg Chrome Sockeye salmon are the best to eat.  They are not as desirable the longer they are in the river.   20120714-130134.jpg Today’s trip was won on a free drawing at the Matanuska valley sportsmans show here in Alaska. I donated this trip the the Mat-su valley medical center to raffle off in their booth. Jeff Anderson of Alaska won the trip for 4 on the Kenai river. The kids were a blast catching sockeye salmon on the Kenai river today and I look forward to having them back on the boat. Tight lines, Scott Sager Www.driftingonthefly.com

20120712-102959.jpg Hanging out at the boat launch on the Kenai river this morning. Had the boat launched early (O dark 30). Waited for an hour for the guest to show up. This usually isn’t a big deal but with the added pressure this year of red fisherman it was this morning. The gravel bar that I really like was filled up and I had no spot to fish. We spent some time running in the boat and was able to get a pretty good spot up river. One of my favorites in the area that I’m in. We’ve lost a few and missed a few but have not put any on the bank and we are half way through our day. with this being said, This year more than ever it’s important to make your start time! I want to see you catch fish about as bad as you want to catch them. Here is a shot of the guys flipping for sockeye salmon fishing on the Kenai river. Hope the second half of the day goes better. I know we will get a few. 20120712-103814.jpg Remember that felt soles are banned in the state of Alaska. If you plan to bring waders make sure that your wading boots have a vibram sole and not felt. Kenai river sockeye salmon fishing

I was able to get on the same gravel bar today that I had yesterday and managed to scrape together my two limits. Kenai river Sockeye salmon fishing is still spotty but fish are passing up river in small spurts. Hard work and determination will pay off at the end of the day with a limit of reds (sockeye salmon). Look for better pushes of fish in the next few days. 20120711-131729.jpg When the numbers of fish are just starting to show up I prefer to move lower in the system and find a hard bend in the river.  Usually with a hard bend in the river there tends to be a back Eddie and fish will hold up there.  Get right above the Eddie in faster water and wait for fish to push by.  This has payed off for me many times. Yesterday’s Kenai river red run estimate was 6500 fish for a total of 56,000 fish so far. When I’m not chasing king salmon, I am chasing reds in July. If you have any interest in a trip for either of these salmon give us a call at 907-382-6808 or check us out on the website at www.driftingonthefly.com

I had the pleasure of fishing with my family on the last day of King salmon season and this 53″ Buck took an orange spin and gloe with some cured salmon eggs.  We ended up landing this fish more than a mile from where it was hooked!! This is a very large King salmon caught on the Kasilof river and everyone is very proud of it.  Our boat has been fishing good and this is a great way to end the King salmon season here in Alaska.   Though king fishing season is over look for more pictures and info about king fishing with us in the future from us.   The  season is really not that far away so if you are interested in a prime date be sure to book early. The last three weeks in July on the Kenai Peninsula seem to book faster and faster each year. Guided kasilof or Kenai river King salmon fishing can be a great experience like my family had when you are with a guide that takes pride in his job Tight lines, Scott
