Kasilof river steelhead fishing trips

20130602-194013.jpg In May and early June, kasilof river steelhead fishing trips can be very productive. Before the glacier and run off bring the water levels up fish can be found throughout the whole system. This week my kasilof river steelhead fishing trips produced not only steelhead but also dolly Varden and king salmon.

20130602-194952.jpg This king salmon took a fly on a dead drift and gave us an epic battle on a 10 foot 7 weight. Here are just a few pictures of some steelhead from this past week.

Kasilof River Guide

If you are looking for a good, dependable, and knowledgeable Kasilof river guide, look no further! I have spent many days through out the last 8 years studying and fishing the Kasilof river.  We will put you in the best runs that we can and give you the best opportunity to catch a fish of a lifetime.  King Salmon on the Kasilof river can be a challenge to catch but with some patients and good coaching I am confident that you will have a successful trip.

This week proved to be another good week for the Kasilof River for King Salmon fishing.  The Dewey family did some back trolling out of the drift boat on Monday with me and this fish flat out smoked us.  It hit a smaller pink cheater with a little glob of cured eggs.  The river has finally come up to normal level and we have had to start fishing with size 40 jet divers.  This kasilof river is mainly a terminal gear fishery but it is still a drift boat only river which makes for a relaxing day.

Congrats to Eric and Kelly we wish you two the best and good luck with the upcoming wedding.

thanks guys and see you next year

DRIFT BOAT FISHING THE KASILOF RIVER

Drift boat fishing the kasilof river today and Tanner Brown caught his first King Salmon.   It was taken July 12 on the Kasilof River with Drifting on the fly guide service.  After releasing a king and a couple more lost opportunities a family of three was happy to make a group effort to land this big fish.  The river fished very good for us today and will only improve until the end of King Salmon season. Drift boat fishing the Kasilof river for King Salmon is a team effort.  Landing a 30-50 pound king salmon or even bigger is a lot of work and when the fish finally comes to the net it will be a very proud moment.  Drift boat fishing is a quiet, relaxing and special way to pursue King salmon.  We offer guided kasilof river trips for Kings in May, June, and July.  If you have any interest in pursuing King salmon or any other species that is offered here on the kenai peninsula give us a call and we will get you lined up today! Nice Job guys and we’ll see you next year! Only a few weeks left so if your itching to try your luck catch up with us at www.driftingonthefly.com tight lines Scott Sager

Guided Kasilof King Salmon Fishing

Guided Kasilof King Salmon Fishing trips are offered in May, June, and July.  Today We set out again today to try to match wits with another King salmon on the kasilof river. We had a slow start with a few Dolly Varden caught and a few missed opportunities with some king Salmon. Ahead of the tide we stuck this fish! After what seemed to be a 30 minute struggle Terry brought this beautiful King Salmon to the net. I was a great day to see a lady from the east coast that has not fished much be so proud of her catch and she should be.  Big King Salmon can put a real stain on you and the equipment.  Sometimes it take a few drift to hook up but when you do it is very exciting to battle a King Salmon.

Nice job Terry and we’ll try again tomorrow.

Guided fishing trips are 275.00 per person and exclusive boat packages are available upon request.  Exclusive boats are a great way to keep the trip personal for the days fishing.  Check out more on our website at www.driftingonthefly.com and just maybe you could be next to hook up on a Kasilof river guide trip!

Kenai Peninsula Fishing Charters

Drifting on the Fly,  A Kenai peninsula fishing charters.  One Great trip we offer is a guided charter on the Kasilof river.  The Kasilof river has good steelhead, king salmon, sockeye salmon and silver salmon runs!  We offer guided trips for all of the above!  King salmon fishing on the Kasilof river was fair yesterday, with some bigger tides pushing in this week we are expecting the fishing to pick up even more.  The egg bite is on, most of the fish are being caught on spin and glows with a small glob of eggs.

The Ninilchik river is now open for the remainder of the month for king salmon fishing. I recommend those that are interested in trying to catch a king salmon on the fly rod to search there. You’ll be able to find the most fish pushing in with the tides so pay attention to what’s going on there or we will be happy to provide a guided trip on one of the kenai peninsula’s rivers for you.

If you have any questions or would like to book a trip this season we are still taking bookings. You can reach us at www.driftingonthefly.com for your next guide trip!

KENAI RIVER KING SALMON

Kenai river King Salmon are coming in better numbers every day.  The rivers both kenai and kasilof are fishing well right now. Drift fishing has still been hit or miss depending on the day. A few Sockeye Salmon are showing up in the Kenai River this week. Be sure to familiarize yourself if you plan to fish the Kenai river since a lot of regulation changes are now in effect for the 2008 season. Pay special attention to the 2-Stroke Motor restrictions. June 11 will open the Kenai River Rainbow Trout Season, until then this season is closed river wide. Check out this link for details on the regulation changes. Give me a call 907-382-6808 if you want to fish the Kenai or Kasilof, I still have a few days open in June as of tonight if you are interested in using our kenai peninsula guide service.

KASILOF RIVER KING SALMON FISHING

Kasilof river King Salmon fishing is getting good now.  On a guide trip  last Tues. and took a beautiful fresh 20lbs. King salmon.  We had a few other hits and caught a few Dolly Varden, Steel head, and flounder in the tidal water.  Things are looking up and the fishing should only get better on the kenai peninsula. If you’d like to book a trip with my Alaska guide service check out our website at www.driftingonthefly.com. Thanks and good fishing, Scott Sager
