WILLIE PREDATOR POWER BOAT

Drifting on the Fly, LLC proudly added a Willie Predator power boat to the business. The boat is 20 feet long and is 72 inches wide and is powered by a 50 horse power Mercury motor and has a 9.9 horse power Mercury motor for secondary power. Though running a drift boat on the Kenai River for salmon, Dolly Varden and rainbow trout has its place, the power boat has its benefits as well.

The use of a powerboat for rainbow trout fishing on the middle Kenai River is a very effective way to have a chance at big Kenai River rainbow trout. This boat also allows us to easily fish the lower Kenai River for king salmon. With a 50-horse power engine on the back of the boat running multiple drifts through a hole can be done in no time.

The option to fish for rainbow trout, silver salmon, or sockeye salmon on the middle river in a power boat is now available. I have owned and run power boats for years and it is nice to finally add one to our guided fishing operation.

Alaska fly out fishing trips are a great way to experience the state and make for a hardcore fishing adventure that you will never forget. Since 2003 we have been working hard at exploring remote rivers in Alaska so that we can offer back country trips as a part of our operation. I have fished many rivers only accessed by float plane and in June of 2009 we traveled to the headwaters of King Salmon river to start a week long float. A great group of guys and committed fly anglers in search of Arctic Grayling, Arctic Char, pike, king salmon and Rainbow Trout! We put this short video of the trip together to share with you. Kenai river trout fishing in the winter can be good one day and just OK the next. Inconsistent temperatures has a lot to do with this. The peak season of kenai river trout fishing is June, August, September and October. The first weekend of Dec. was beautiful on the Kenai river. We didn’t catch a ton of rainbow trout but enough to keep us motivated. Skilak lake is now starting to freeze over and wade fishing opportunities are about all that is available now. The weather was excellent today with temperatures over 30 degrees! I wasn’t out on the Kenai river but I know a few people that took full advantage and look forward to the report. Winter fishing is a great time of year to get out on the Kenai river, so pick a window of good weather and get outside! Good luck and we’ll see you out there. If you are visiting the Alaska in the fall and the weather is right for you, Homer alaska Lingcod and halibut fishing can be very good. Be sure to dress for a colder days of fishing though. You can always take off layers but if you don’t have them you cant put them on! Be prepared for 25 – 50 degrees after mid September. This is my best lingcod to date! 60+ pounds!

Just because it’s getting a little cold doesn’t mean that there are not some great fishing opportunities on the Kenai peninsula. We had a great day in late Sept. and the best part was that we were the only boat out there! Weather in the fall can be very unpredictable. You line up a saltwater trip and get blown off due to weather we will be happy to replace your day with a trip on the Kenai river. STEELHEAD FISHING

This week we will kick off steelhead fishing camp! We will be camped out on the Anchor river the first weekend in Oct. If you are interested in camping off the end of the fishing season sharing camp with some hard core steelhead fishermen and we’d love to have you join us. We plan to have a wonderful camp fire Friday and sat. night with good food and laughs, along with some epic steelhead fishing. There is plenty of camp sites in the area along with the Anchor river Inn for those that would like a warm room and shower at a reasonable price. GUIDED KASILOF RIVER KING SALMON FISHING

Guided Kasilof river King salmon fishing is officially over on the Kenai peninsula now. The end of July marks the end of King salmon fishing on the Kenai peninsula. Though it was a great season we are now geared up and focused on Silver Salmon, Sockeye salmon and rainbow trout fishing now.

I had the pleasure of fishing with my family on the last day of King salmon season and this 53″ Buck took an orange spin and gloe with some cured salmon eggs. We ended up landing this fish more than a mile from where it was hooked!! This is a very large King salmon caught on the Kasilof river and everyone is very proud of it. Our boat has been fishing good and this is a great way to end the King salmon season here in Alaska. Though king fishing season is over look for more pictures and info about king fishing with us in the future from us. The season is really not that far away so if you are interested in a prime date be sure to book early. The last three weeks in July on the Kenai Peninsula seem to book faster and faster each year. KASILOF RIVER KING SALMON FISHING

Kasilof River king salmon fishing has been great! Good fishing and less crowds has made for a great season on the Kasilof river. It is however getting more popular every year, it is the sister river to the Kenai river and big fish are caught often. These fish are here and every year someone gets schooled on a fish that might very well be the next world record. This is one of the 3 fish these two guys caught this day! On the Kasilof river you do not have to quit fishing if you have harvested a fish. Though we try not to take bites away from other fisherman you will have a line in the water if everyone hasn’t limited out for the day! Odds are better drift boat fishing the Kasilof river. We have stepped it up to a 30″ leader with a large egg orange cheater behind a # 40 diver. Kenai river sockeye salmon fishing

Kenai river sockeye salmon fishing can be fast and furious! The 2nd run Kenai river Sockeye salmon are starting to show up in good numbers. Today we saw lots of fish moving through and look to see even more in the next couple of days.

This is one of the Sockeye salmon we caught today fishing Kenai River. A long leader with just enough weight to bounce along the bottom will get you hooked up on one of these hard fighting fish.

While out on the river don’t forget to take a minute to see what is passing you by. This common merganser was out teaching her little ones how to fish. The scenery is hard to beet while on the Kenai river sockeye salmon fishing as well.
