Cordova Alaska Fishing

I will be in Cordova Alaska fishing for the next week for steelhead, sea run cutthroat, rainbow trout, and Dolly Varden. The fishing should be good unless the rivers get blown out and it is calling for rain throughout the week. It’s that time in Alaska! I haven’t been able to get out and fish to much due to the weather and work but that’s all over for now. I hope that everyone is enjoying their spring and getting a line wet now and then. DOLLY VARDEN FISHING ON THE KENAI RIVER

Dolly Varden fishing on the Kenai River is often off the hook in the spring until the middle of september. This beautiful fish was caught in the fall right before the Dolly mVarden spawn. Dolly Varden are in the char family and spawn in the fall.

When you find spawning Sockeye Salmon you’ll be sure to find a Dolly Varden or two behind them. With clearer water look for the shadows under and behind the salmon. They can be hard to see sometimes but whenever you approach the stream or river make sure you spend a minute looking before walking right up to the water. This fish was caught in the middle of September on the Kenai river and is a very good fish. Large 25 inch or bigger Dolly Varden are caught daily on the kenai river when the bite is going off. COLD WEATHER FISHING

Cold weather fishing on the kenai river! Need a fishing fix? The Kenai River has good wintertime Dolly Varden fishing ,rainbow trout and is low enough to easily wade fish, unless your rod ends up like this one. I am afraid it’s there until Spring Break-Up???

When the temperatures dip and the snow falls we tend to slow down a little and wait until the warmest parts of the day to go fishing. Daylight isn’t as long now and we have to make the best of the last few trips of the year. Mostly steelhead fishing and rainbow trout on the kenai river is what we prefer but don’t count out some late season silver salmon fishing. KENAI PENINSULA STEELHEAD FISHING

Kenai peninsula steelhead fishing trips are offered for both the fly angler and the light spin tackle angler. Drift boat trips and walk and wade trips are our preferred ways to pursue these hard fighting fish. Warm clothing, hand warmers and perseverance have paid off recently on the Kenai Peninsula Steelhead fishing streams. Beads or leeches fished dead drift or down and across streamer style with a Teeny 200 if the streams are too high. In other words – typical finicky Steelhead fishing but the catching has been good. The steelhead run seems to be steady and the only thing that gets in the way is ice in our guides though the last few days haven’t been that cold though. The middle river section of the Kenai continues to be great for nice, fat rainbows trout. The dolly Varden are mostly gone now, off to do the spawning thing up the tributaries. So it is just you, the silver salmon, and the rainbows trout as far as fishing on the kenai river in concerned. Booking a kenai peninsula steelhead fishing trip with us is easy. Willow Creek Fly Fishing

Willow creek fly fishing opportunities are action packed and exciting. September Rainbow trout fishing is great almost everywhere in Alaska now. Most of the Salmon are at the end of their life cycle and the trout are really keying in on this food source right now. I fished Willow Creek with the folks from Murray’s fly shop on Tuesday and we had a spectacular time. The fishing on the many streams off the Parks highway are easily accessible and full of fish. The rainbow Trout seemed to concentrate at the confluence of the Susitna and Willow Creek in good numbers today. We caught three species of fish in about 30 minutes. Grayling, Dolly Varden, and Rainbow trout were our main focus letting the salmon spawn with no harassment of big streamers in there spawning beds. Once a salmon sets up on its spawning bed or also known as a red they will protect this area by taking anything that passes through this area. Willow creek fly fishing is a lot of fun, mostly wade fishing opportunities and A great place to check out. Hope to see you on the river!
