TROUT BEADS FOR THE KENAI RIVER
Rainbow trout beads for the kenai river come in a lot of different sizes and colors. Give them a realistic look by painting them in the color of a real salmon egg. There are so many different stages of color that a real salmon egg has so have a large selection of trout beads for the kenai river.
A good way to make sure you have everything you need for the kenai river rainbow trout season is to start early. It also makes for more fishing time when you get a chance to go! Anywhere there is fish spawning you should at least have a few beads in your box. We use many different flies, beads, and lures to fish the kenai river. Cold weather fishing on the kenai river!
Need a fishing fix? The Kenai River has good wintertime Dolly Varden fishing ,rainbow trout and is low enough to easily wade fish, unless your rod ends up like this one. I am afraid it’s there until Spring Break-Up???

Daylight isn’t as long now and we have to make the best of the last few trips of the year. Mostly steelhead fishing and rainbow trout on the kenai river is what we prefer but don’t count out some late season silver salmon fishing. This can make for an exciting day out on the water and casting longer distances can keep a guy warm!.

I enjoy many of natures experiences year round, but mid Jan. is when I try to get most of my fly tying done. It is something that can take you to past experiences and also prepare you for the upcoming fishing season. These days the first thing I concentrate on are silver flies. Silver patterns in my selection can vary from a size 8 nymph to a 2/0 streamer. The selection in your box may be different but here are a few flies that are standbys for me.
– The muddler minnow tied with natural deer hair is one that stands out. I like to tone it down when the fish have seen a lot of pressure and fish a fly that is not so flashy and the muddler minnow gets it done for me,
-also a standby are bunny flies. Rabbit hair has natural movement in the water and can be tied in any color and variation.

Alaska winter and The holidays have passed and the normal routine, and pace, of life has returned. The snow continues to fall right now as I look out the window and the temperatures are in the upper teens.
As January marches on with every phone call or email discussing the 2008 fishing season, I feel the growing itch to get out and Go FISHING on the kenai river! However, I think some Snowshoeing and Skiing will scratch my itch for a while longer (and will certainly contain my energy levels!)…
For the comraderie, maybe a little ice fishing?

Steelhead fishing the kenai peninsula often requires a lot of walking. We will put in a few miles a day in search of productive runs. Often if you don’t hook up in a few drifts we will move in search of hot fish. Once we find a concentration of steelhead we may be working that run for the most part of the trip. I will often give a run a rest after hooking a fish and then find that other fish will play one the run cools down. We offer both walk and wade and drift boat trips for steelhead fishing the kenai peninsula. Give us a call and we will get you lined up on your next fishing adventure.

Drifting On The Fly, LLC FLY FISHING ON THE KENAI PENINSULA
Winter fly fishing on the kenai peninsula, Alaska
The Kenai Peninsula continues to produce both steelhead and rainbow trout in the right stream. The steelhead fishing continue to arrive daily in those streams that support steelhead and since these streams have not iced over yet, fishing has been productive. Streamers and eggs continue to produce with mixed results from day to day. Don’t hesitate to change patterns and technique fairly often if things don’t seem to be working. When you find low clear water be careful about spooking fish, once you spook them often they will just move into deeper water and hold in plain sight, fishing to a spooked fish or two is a waste of time. Move on! The Kenai River continues to provide great rainbow fishing. The Silver Salmon are pretty much done and the season ends today. Beads continue to produce the best in the rainbow department.

Fall is well underway and winter is threatening more and more each day. The Kenai peninsula steelhead fishing and the Kenai river rainbow trout fishing has been outstanding.

Drifting On The Fly, LLC Willow Creek Fly Fishing
Willow creek fly fishing opportunities are action packed and exciting. September Rainbow trout fishing is great almost everywhere in Alaska now. Most of the Salmon are at the end of their life cycle and the trout are really keying in on this food source right now. I fished Willow Creek with the folks from Murray’s fly shop on Tuesday and we had a spectacular time. The fishing on the many streams off the Parks highway are easily accessible and full of fish. The rainbow Trout seemed to concentrate at the confluence of the Susitna and Willow Creek in good numbers today. We caught three species of fish in about 30 minutes. Grayling, Dolly Varden, and Rainbow trout were our main focus letting the salmon spawn with no harassment of big streamers in there spawning beds. Once a salmon sets up on its spawning bed or also known as a red they will protect this area by taking anything that passes through this area. Willow creek fly fishing is a lot of fun, mostly wade fishing opportunities and A great place to check out. Hope to see you on the river!

ALASKA SHEEFISH FISHING
Alaska sheefish fishing is something that I have been wanting to do since I moved here in 2002. This past week I took a short trip but long drive to a little river above the Yukon river. This is the only road side fishery that I have found that sustains a fishable number of Sheefish! We fished for only a day but found that this smaller stream has a lot to offer. We found pike, grayling, dolly varden, and smaller sheefish. Sheefish can grow bigger than 50 lbs. but the biggest one we found was about 8 lbs. The little river that I am talking about is the Ray river about 30 mile or so north of Fort Yukon. Good fishing and I hope that you to can check this river out!
