July rainbow trout fishing

July rainbow trout fishing has been excellent on the Kenai river. Fishing Behind all the sockeye anglers has been the ticket here lately. I’ve been running a 9′ leader with flesh or egg patterns and picking up fish through put the day. There is a lot of food in the system now and it should only get better as the season goes on!

Resurrection bay fly fishing

Resurrection bay fly fishing when the silver salmon are in is a great way to spend a day in Alaska. No wind and 75 degrees is a recipe for a great day on the salt. I was throwing a Jim teeny super magnum sinking line and was able to entice a lot of silver salmon to take the fly. 20130715-155541.jpg 20130717-125632.jpg Many other species were caught on bait and tackle but whenever I can entice a fish to take the fly it makes the day so much sweeter! Fly fishing or just fishing trips are available and we are happy to Getty lined up. Give us a call at 907-382-6808 or email is from here on the sight.

Alaska lake trout fishing

In the spring alaska lake trout fishing can be very productive. I took a few days to go to a secret little nook in Alaska about 500 miles from soldotna the other night. I drove fished and drove home in just 2 days with a little nap along side the road. I had one of the most epic night of fly fishing lake trout that I could have expected. The lake trout took white deceiver flies viciously and often. I used a 200 grain teeny sink tip to start and ended up with a floating line swinging the same fly! Once the fishing slowed down later in the evening I had a chance to break out my Loomis 3 piece glx 7 foot casting rod with a crank bait. I haven’t had the opportunity to fish this rod in a long time. I hit another dozen fish and called it an evening! The lake trout were between 4 and 8 pounds and hard fighting fish. The grayling fishing was as good as it gets as well. I also had a bamboo rod with me that I hadn’t fished in 6 years and made sure I worked that rod for a while as well!
