FLY FISHING ON THE KENAI PENINSULA

Winter fly fishing on the kenai peninsula, Alaska The Kenai Peninsula continues to produce both steelhead and rainbow trout in the right stream. The steelhead fishing continue to arrive daily in those streams that support steelhead and since these streams have not iced over yet, fishing has been productive. Streamers and eggs continue to produce with mixed results from day to day. Don’t hesitate to change patterns and technique fairly often if things don’t seem to be working. When you find low clear water be careful about spooking fish, once you spook them often they will just move into deeper water and hold in plain sight, fishing to a spooked fish or two is a waste of time. Move on! The Kenai River continues to provide great rainbow fishing. The Silver Salmon are pretty much done and the season ends today. Beads continue to produce the best in the rainbow department. KENAI PENINSULA STEELHEAD FISHING

Kenai peninsula steelhead fishing trips are offered for both the fly angler and the light spin tackle angler. Drift boat trips and walk and wade trips are our preferred ways to pursue these hard fighting fish. Warm clothing, hand warmers and perseverance have paid off recently on the Kenai Peninsula Steelhead fishing streams. Beads or leeches fished dead drift or down and across streamer style with a Teeny 200 if the streams are too high. In other words – typical finicky Steelhead fishing but the catching has been good. The steelhead run seems to be steady and the only thing that gets in the way is ice in our guides though the last few days haven’t been that cold though. The middle river section of the Kenai continues to be great for nice, fat rainbows trout. The dolly Varden are mostly gone now, off to do the spawning thing up the tributaries. So it is just you, the silver salmon, and the rainbows trout as far as fishing on the kenai river in concerned. Booking a kenai peninsula steelhead fishing trip with us is easy. TERMINATION DUST

Termination Dust covers the mountain tops around Kenai Lake. Fall is well underway and winter is threatening more and more each day. The Kenai peninsula steelhead fishing and the Kenai river rainbow trout fishing has been outstanding.

KENAI PENINSULA STEELHEAD FISHING

We offer guided Kenai pennisula steelhead fishing trips in April, May, June, September and October. The Cost of a steelhead fishing trip is 275.00 per person and exclusive packages are available. We have both walk and wade and drift boat opportunities at these hard fighting fishing. Our guide service will supply waders, rods, and other tackle you will be responsible for your lunch and fishing license.

The Kenai Peninsula steelhead fishing has been excellent this month. I have spent the last two days chasing these gear thrashing fish and have seen a lot of fish hooked. The folks from Murrays’ fly shop felt right at home in these smaller streams and fell right into getting fish on the line. It can be trying if everything is not just right but when it is on, the action is fast and furious. The big fish for the trip was about 30″ and within our group we saw about a dozen fish. Willow Creek Fly Fishing

Willow creek fly fishing opportunities are action packed and exciting. September Rainbow trout fishing is great almost everywhere in Alaska now. Most of the Salmon are at the end of their life cycle and the trout are really keying in on this food source right now. I fished Willow Creek with the folks from Murray’s fly shop on Tuesday and we had a spectacular time. The fishing on the many streams off the Parks highway are easily accessible and full of fish. The rainbow Trout seemed to concentrate at the confluence of the Susitna and Willow Creek in good numbers today. We caught three species of fish in about 30 minutes. Grayling, Dolly Varden, and Rainbow trout were our main focus letting the salmon spawn with no harassment of big streamers in there spawning beds. Once a salmon sets up on its spawning bed or also known as a red they will protect this area by taking anything that passes through this area. Willow creek fly fishing is a lot of fun, mostly wade fishing opportunities and A great place to check out. Hope to see you on the river!

ALASKA SHEEFISH FISHING

Alaska sheefish fishing is something that I have been wanting to do since I moved here in 2002. This past week I took a short trip but long drive to a little river above the Yukon river. This is the only road side fishery that I have found that sustains a fishable number of Sheefish! We fished for only a day but found that this smaller stream has a lot to offer. We found pike, grayling, dolly varden, and smaller sheefish. Sheefish can grow bigger than 50 lbs. but the biggest one we found was about 8 lbs. The little river that I am talking about is the Ray river about 30 mile or so north of Fort Yukon. Good fishing and I hope that you to can check this river out! Alaska King Salmon fishing

Alaska king salmon fishing overnight trips are a blast! This week on our back country fishing trip We will be fishing for King Salmon primarily but will have opportunity at some rainbow trout as well. We will leave Anchorage June 16, 2007 and float/ camp/ fish for 5 days, 4 nights returning to Anchorage.. Back country fishing trips can be a lot of fun. Remember though when you are floating in the wilds of Alaska being prepared is key but keeping gear to a minimum is also very important. The fine line of having enough and not is always in the back of my mind. Customer safety is very important to us. The cost of this all inclusive trip is $1400.00 per person for the 2007 season. This price Includes: transportation to stream and back to Anchorage, gear, tackle, food, beverages, tents and sleeping bags. Bring yourself, your fishing license, your camera and some clothes. KENAI RIVER RAINBOW TROUT FISHING

The Kenai river rainbow trout fishing has shown great improvements on the egg bite in the last two weeks. The fish below Skilak on the middle kenai river seem to be keying in on the egg spawn from the king salmon. I’m finding that size 10 mil. egg pattern is working best for me. A dead drift is very important, the kenai river rainbow trout see many anglers these days and get wise to a drift with the least bit of drag in it. keep your casts short and your rod high. The less line on the water is the best to prevent any drag at all. Also, do not count out the Sockeye Salmon, they have been stacking up and are ready to drop any minute in this area. KENAI RIVER SILVER SALMON AND RAINBOW TROUT

Kenai River silver salmon and Rainbow trout fishing has been excellent! Guided fishing trips are available and with your help we will design a trip that best suites your vacation. Available trips are drift boat, power boat, walk and wade and fly out fishing trips with spin or fly tackle.

Rainbow trout Fishing on the Kenai river has been excellent and this will remain through the freeze up . Fly Out Silver Salmon fishing has been very good as well. The trips that we have taken this year have all ended up in good weather and good fishing. The chance in Alaska for bad weather to set in is always in the back of my mind but luck has been on our side this year. The Kenai and Kasilof are both only fishing fair for Silver salmon this week. KENAI RIVER RAINBOW TROUT FISHING

The Kenai river King Season has ended and I have to say it ended up being a good year. Now it is time to chase big rainbows trout, steel head and silver salmon. The rainbow trout fishing has been good this week and is steadily improving each day. We have had several nice rainbows pushing 30 inches since my last post here. These fish are keying in on the King Salmon Spawn now. Where ever you find a pair of Kings you can bet that there are many rainbows and dolly varden laying behind them waiting for them to drop eggs. This is the main source of food for the trout at this time of year. Give me a call if you are interested in a trip you will never forget.
