Fishing for Kenai River Sockeye salmon this morning and watched a beautiful sunrise up the river! Along with many other reasons the scenery on the Kenai river makes my job great. Gravel bars to fish off of are hard to come by this season so we are trying our best to be on scene as early as possible or later on in the day. The fish seem to be pushing best in the early morning as well the last few days. Although the afternoon fishing hasn’t been bad because the crowds have dwindled and the numbers of fish are so good right now you can’t help but to hook lots of them.

Guided Sockeye salmon fishing on the kenai river allows us to put you in productive and less crowded areas. Like everyday we showed up at the on a Kenai river gravel bar just after day light. The fish are passing through a Little slower today but we have managed to land a half dozen sockeye salmon. July weather tends to be very nice on the Kenai Peninsula most years and the scenery is as good as it gets.

A couple things to remember on your Sockeye salmon fishing trip with us is your fishing license, a change of cloths, a packed lunch and of cloths and extra pair of socks!! The water temperature is still slightly under 50 degrees so standing in the water with waders on can chill your feet down in a hurry. Fishing for sockeye salmon is done mostly off of gravel bars wade fishing. Taking a break once in a while allows you to stay warm for a full days fishing. Kenai river sockeye salmon and rainbow trout fishing trips with Drifting on the Fly’s guide service. Kenai river sockeye salmon and rainbow trout fishing combination trips can be a long day on the water but provide a great experience of the river. Our full day trips are advertised at 8 hours but many days go on a little longer. I met up with one of my Alaska resident fishing groups early to get our waders on and gear ready this morning. The kids eager to get out on the river but the early mornings make them move a little slower.

Starting out on the lower Kenai river with some sockeye salmon fishing. The kids had a great time and caught a few salmon but really wanted to go after a big Kenai river rainbow trout. Early in the sockeye salmon run I target fish directly behind cleaning stations and were carcasses tend to pile up. This proved to be where most of the rainbow trout were today! Nothing big but that doesn’t matter when you are catching fish. Good job guys and I’m looking forward to next weekend.

Simms fishing products are always a great purchase and last for a long time. I have abused many of there products in 17 years of taking people fishing and still depend on their products today. Making good use of another Simms fishing products, The workbench bottle opener comes in handy in the evening while washing my boats and getting gear together for the next day of fishing! A beer or two from the Alaska brewing company is wonderful after a day of rainbow trout fishing Kenai river.

Prepping gear and making sure that you have a clean boat at the start of the day is a very important part of my job. After a long day on the river there is still many hours of work to do for the next days fishing trip. Kenai river salmon fishing starts early in the day and will last eight hours on a full day trip. We will coordinate on the meeting place and start time prior to the fishing trip. Running up the Kenai river in the early morning can be chilly, even In July! Remember to bring a few extra layers to remain comfortable. Also sunglasses and a favorite hat is highly recommended.

Once we arrived on the gravel bar we quickly warmed up with some great kenai river salmon fishing! A limit of reds are harder to find early in the season but with persistance and good techniques you should be able to put some fish on the bank. After a day of good fishing for sockeye salmon these anglers will be headed home with some salmon and memories of fishing the Kenai river. After a solid two weeks of Kenai river sockeye salmon fishing, we’ve done well about every day. I have notice that the for the amount of reds that fish and game clams that are in the Kenai river the fishing hasn’t beenis as epic as it should be. It’s not bad but I am wondering were these huge numbers are? Yesterday six of us fished for 8.5 hours and managed to get our limit of 18 sockeye salmon. The fishing was consistent and we probably hooked 30 more fish or so and released some fowl hooked fish too.

July weather couldn’t be better here on the Kenai Peninsula and fresh fish are everywhere. Hiring a guide will help you get to more productive gravel bars and allow you to get a little space in between other groups of fisherman as well. Kenai river sockeye salmon fishing has been excellent! The Kenai River got a push of just under 120,000 sockeye salmon yesterday For a total of around 200,000 fish for the second run. These are great numbers of fish and getting a few shouldn’t be a problem for the next few weeks!!! This morning I had a great crew and they had there fish in just a few hours. Once you have your limit of kenai river sockeye salmon you don’t have to quit fishing. We can then pursue other species like rainbow trout and dolly varden.

A nice limit of fish like this will keep your freezer stocked up with fresh sockeye salmon for months, if you book multiple days of fishing you could have salmon to eat throughout the year. Drift boat king salmon fishing

Drift boat king salmon fishing on the Kasilof river today! The morning has been good with a few king salmon caught. Since the kasilof and Kenai river has gone to catch and release with artificial lurers only, the bite has been on par to what “I” think it should be. This fish took us through two holes to land it and the guest said it was the most epic battle he has ever had and has king salmon fished his whole life. He was happy to release it and said he wouldn’t have killed it even if he could. For a great day on The river and a chance to catch a really big king salmon the kasilof river is producing fish right now.

It is hard work fishing for king Salmon and can take some patients too but the reward is well worth it. The fish will weigh in the high 30 pound range and is fresh in from the ocean. The best time to catch a king salmon is when it first enters the river. They are full of energy and will flat out punish you.
