Kenai river trout fishing

Kenai river Trout fishing was good again today. We didn’t land any huge fish but we did catch a lot. The dolly Varden and rainbow trout fishing should do nothing but get better every day. 20120817-165721.jpg I liked this shirt one of the guest was wearing today. “the whole trout and nothing but the trout so help me cod” ! The Middle Kenai river trout fishing is very good right now and should continue to be good for the rest of the season.  Most seasons The rainbow trout fishing is consistent from the middle of August until freeze up.  There are days that we have to work for fish like anywhere but The Kenai river trout fishing is as good as it gets most of the time.  It always seems to amaze me even though I fish it year in and year out.  Give us a call and we will get you lined up on the kenai river trout fishing during a prime date.  Book early to make sure you get the date that best fits your trip to Alaska’s Kenai peninsula.  Contact us here on the site or by phone. Large groups

20120730-120536.jpg Our company is happy to handle large groups.  Our guides are willing to work together and keep the group on the same gravel bar if at all possible.  If we are boat fishing the boats will hang together in the runs so that camaraderie is enjoyed by everyone.  In just a few hours on a evening half day sockeye salmon trip this group of anglers did very well. We don’t often offer half day trips but we will provide them if requested.  Salmon fishing is at its peak right now and it should hold up for another couple of weeks. They ended up with a large stringer and had a great experience.  Large groups are welcome on the kenai river. We are able to handle groups of 2-20 anglers per day, we can accommodate up to 4 anglers per boat. Fishing gear, hot coffee, water, and snacks are provided with your trip.  You will need a fishing license, a packed lunch, and rain gear.  We can provide rain gear and waders if requested. Booking a fishing trip with us is very easy.  Give us a call or contact us here for more details Tight lines, Scott Sager Www.driftingonthefly.com

Great Day on the Kenai River

great day on the kenai river and I hope the weather that we have been having lasts! The mornings have been cooler and clear, by mid day the temperatures have been in the mid 70’s. The weather and the great push of sockeye salmon has been a real treat for us after a cooler spring. The total estimated count for the Kenai river sockeye salmon is over one million fish now!! The numbers of salmon and good weather has brought people from all over to the Kenai peninsula. Today I saw two different float planes parked and out fishing for reds. This is not uncommon but it’s great to see people that could go anywhere in the state of Alaska choosing to fish our great Kenai river. Good weather Great fishing makes for an awesome day! Give us a call at 907-382-6808 or check us out at www.driftingonthefly.com if you would like a great day on the kenai river Tight lines, Scott Sager 20120729-102937.jpg 20120729-103104.jpg Float planes often use the middle kenai river.  The fishing is good and there are plenty of places to park and get the plane safely out of the current.

Kenai river sockeye salmon

Fishing for Kenai River Sockeye salmon this morning and watched a beautiful sunrise up the river!  Along with many other reasons the scenery on the Kenai river makes my job great.  Gravel bars to fish off of are hard to come by this season so we are trying our best to be on scene as early as possible or later on in the day. The fish seem to be pushing best in the early morning as well the last few days.  Although the afternoon fishing hasn’t been bad because the crowds have dwindled and the numbers of fish are so good right now you can’t help but to hook lots of them.   20120726-214432.jpg Kenai river sockeye Salmon fishing is excellent right now and if you are in need of a guide service give us a call right away. We offer both full day and half day guided sockeye salmon fishing trips.  I also have both power boat and drift boats to fish out of.  For sockeye salmon fishing on the Kenai river I prefer the use of the power boat though.  This allows us to be more mobile in search of a less crowded and productive gravel bar.   If you are interested in beating the crowds and fishing on one of my most productive spots,  give us a call at 907-382-6808 or check us out online at www.driftingonthefly.com

Simms fishing products

Simms fishing products are always a great purchase and last for a long time.  I have abused many of there products in 17 years of taking people fishing and still depend on their products today. Making good use of another Simms fishing products,  The workbench bottle opener comes in handy in the evening while washing my boats and getting gear together for the next day of fishing! A beer or two from the Alaska brewing company is wonderful after a day of rainbow trout fishing  Kenai river. 20120722-205313.jpg 20120722-205438.jpg Prepping gear and making sure that you have a clean boat at the start of the day is a very important part of my job.  After a long day on the river there is still many hours of work to do for the next days fishing trip.  I often say that promising fish is a disaster waiting to happen but promising a clean boat, top of the line gear and an ambition to find fish will make the day come together.   If this is something you expect from your guide service Give us a call at 907-382-6808 or check us out at www.driftingonthefly.com

Kenai river salmon fishing

20120722-203734.jpg Kenai river salmon fishing starts early in the day and will last eight hours on a full day trip.  We will coordinate on the meeting place and start time prior to the fishing trip. Running up the Kenai river in the early morning can be chilly, even In July! Remember to bring a few extra layers to remain comfortable. Also sunglasses and a favorite hat is highly recommended. 20120722-203958.jpg Once we arrived on the gravel bar we quickly warmed up with some great kenai river salmon fishing! A limit of reds are harder to find early in the season but with persistance and good techniques you should be able to put some fish on the bank. After a day of good fishing for sockeye salmon these anglers will be headed home with some salmon and memories of fishing the Kenai river. There are still a few seats available for rainbow trout, silver salmon and sockeye salmon (reds) left for the 2012 season give us a call at 1(907)382-6808 if you are planning getting out and doing a little kenai river salmon fishing on your vacation to the Kenai peninsula. Kenai river sockeye salmon fishing

After a solid two weeks of Kenai river sockeye salmon fishing, we’ve done well about every day. I have notice that the for the amount of reds that fish and game clams that are in the Kenai river the fishing hasn’t beenis as epic as it should be. It’s not bad but I am wondering were these huge numbers are? Yesterday six of us fished for 8.5 hours and managed to get our limit of 18 sockeye salmon. The fishing was consistent and we probably hooked 30 more fish or so and released some fowl hooked fish too. 20120720-075343.jpg July weather couldn’t be better here on the Kenai Peninsula and fresh fish are everywhere.  Hiring a guide will help you get to more productive gravel bars and allow you to get a little space in between other groups of fisherman as well.  Once you are dialed in on the techniques you will be able to hook sockeye salmon during the peak of the run with ease. If you are looking for a day of Kenai River sockeye salmon fishing contact us through our site or give us a call.  We are happy to get you lined up and it is our mission to provide you with a quality experience.

Kenai river salmon

Another beautiful day fishing for sockeye salmon on the Kenai river, If the days continue to be this nice I’ll think I’m some where else other than Alaska. The weather has been great and so has the kenai river Salmon fishing! We had our fish in less than an hour yesterday and then moved on to rainbow trout fishing. After we are finished salmon fishing I will clean your fish for you on the river.  By doing this on the river we offer food back into the system for other species and that way I know you get the most out of your harvest.  The rainbow trout and dolly Varden fishing was a little slower but with some work we found a concentration of fish and managed to pull the day of successful. 20120719-083327.jpg With so many sockeye in the river I believe that it Freaks the rainbow trout out for a few days. Now there are enough carcasses in the river that the trout should start to really key in on them! In a few days though a fresh flesh fly will do very well just down stream of the sockeye salmon anglers.  If there is time after a Kenai river salmon trip we are happy to make a few drifts for you to try and catch some rainbow trout if you would like. sockeye salmon fishing

20120712-102959.jpg Hanging out at the boat launch on the Kenai river this morning. Had the boat launched early (O dark 30). Waited for an hour for the guest to show up. This usually isn’t a big deal but with the added pressure this year of red fisherman it was this morning. The gravel bar that I really like was filled up and I had no spot to fish. We spent some time running in the boat and was able to get a pretty good spot up river. One of my favorites in the area that I’m in. We’ve lost a few and missed a few but have not put any on the bank and we are half way through our day. with this being said, This year more than ever it’s important to make your start time! I want to see you catch fish about as bad as you want to catch them. Here is a shot of the guys flipping for sockeye salmon fishing on the Kenai river. Hope the second half of the day goes better. I know we will get a few. 20120712-103814.jpg Remember that felt soles are banned in the state of Alaska. If you plan to bring waders make sure that your wading boots have a vibram sole and not felt.
