Kasilof river fishing for king salmon today has been good. I caught a nice 40 pound fish earlier in the trip and when we got down to meet the incoming tide a flurry of fish hit us head on. We had several take downs landed one and had a fish almost spool us before we got off anchor. The end of the Kenai peninsula king salmon season is shaping up to be very good.

Kasilof river fishing continues to be good for us. Between the steelhead fishing and the king salmon fishing the days have been passing by way to fast. The kasilof river is starting to rise with runoff now and I know the steelhead fishing will not last much longer. Maybe a week if I am lucky. We will have to wait until the fall to see the acrobatic hard fighting fish again.

This morning when I got up and going I was able to see this new born moose and cow hanging out behind the neighbors house. They are so clumsy looking when they are first born.

MAT-SU Outdoorsman Show 2013

The MAT-SU Outdoorsman show 2013 is coming up in Wasilla Alaska.

I will be in the Mat-Su regional medical centers booth helping them promote Men’s health and awareness at the Mat-Su Outdoorsman show. Drifting on the Fly and the Mat-Su regional medical center will be giving away a free raffle ticket for a chance to win a trip on the Kenai or Kasilof river for 1-4 people during the 2013 fishing season, so make sure you stop by. Dates for the trip won are good for any available date during the 2013 fishing season. Don’t miss out on a chance at a free fishing trip and receive some information on how to have a healthier life. Kasilof river silver salmon fishing can be very relaxing, here we are in the run we call desperation waiting for another bite. A day on the river back trolling is a great way to fish. Back bouncing or back trolling are the two most productive ways to pursue kasilof river silver salmon.

We were out Drift boating Kasilof river silver salmon fishing today. We have caught lots of pink salmon and a few silver salmon Early morning is the most productive time right now, by mid afternoon the bite is very sporadic. The guys had a lot of fun and were a great group. I always enjoy a group that is here to catch fish and not a good time pass them by.

The Kasilof river has many fishing and wildlife viewing opportunities! Here is a picture of a bull moose grazing at the kasilof river boat launch this morning!

There is a lot of opportunity in Alaska to see wildlife. If you are on the highway or on the river or at your place of lodging keep in mind that it is “wildlife” and give them some space. To many time we see people running up to get a better picture or worse just stopping in the middle of the highway to get that snap shot. Be sure to pull off the road in a safe place and give wildlife plenty of room.

Wildlife along the Kasilof river is abundant and the opportunity to see a moose crossing the river or standing beside the boat launch is very high. Along with taking fishing trip for king salmon, silver salmon or steel head on the Kasilof river the photography possibilities are there as too. Drift boat anchor

If you ever loose an anchor and don’t have a spare, improvise by using a rock as a drift boat anchor. This guy said he just prefers a rock anchor over a lead anchor so he uses it all the time!

If you are looking for a good, dependable, and knowledgeable Kasilof river guide, look no further! I have spent many days through out the last 8 years studying and fishing the Kasilof river. King Salmon on the Kasilof river can be a challenge to catch but with some patients and good coaching I am confident that you will have a successful trip.

This week proved to be another good week for the Kasilof River for King Salmon fishing. The Dewey family did some back trolling out of the drift boat on Monday with me and this fish flat out smoked us. It hit a smaller pink cheater with a little glob of cured eggs. The river has finally come up to normal level and we have had to start fishing with size 40 jet divers. This kasilof river is mainly a terminal gear fishery but it is still a drift boat only river which makes for a relaxing day.

Kenai River Guide Trip

A popular Kenai river guide trip is for Sockeye Salmon, We offer many fishing opportunities in July and August for sockeye salmon. Some of the best gravel bars are accessible on the middle kenai river. We fish here almost exclusively during the peak of the sockeye salmon runs. We look for the Sockeye salmon fishing to pick up in the next few days also. Usually by July 14th the fishing is very good. Limits are 3 per person a day until the escapement is reached and then it is usually bumped up to 6 per person!

Second run king salmon are here. Fish have been showing up in good numbers now and you should be able to snatch on to a king if you put the time in. Both the Kenai and Kasilof have fished well for me the last couple of days. Quick fish worked best on the Kenai river and Spin and glows with a glob of eggs have been best on the Kasilof river for us.

KENAI RIVER KING SALMON

Kenai river King Salmon are coming in better numbers every day. The rivers both kenai and kasilof are fishing well right now. Drift fishing has still been hit or miss depending on the day. A few Sockeye Salmon are showing up in the Kenai River this week. Be sure to familiarize yourself if you plan to fish the Kenai river since a lot of regulation changes are now in effect for the 2008 season. Pay special attention to the 2-Stroke Motor restrictions. June 11 will open the Kenai River Rainbow Trout Season, until then this season is closed river wide. Check out this link for details on the regulation changes.
