saltwater fishing

Today we went saltwater fishing in Seward Alaska.  It was so late when we got off the water last night we didn’t take the time to hang our catch. We took a couple pictures of the yellow eye with the kids and butchered our catch. The trip was a success and even with a little motion sickness everyone had a great day! Here are a couple pictures after we hit the dock yesterday in Seward after doing some saltwater fishing. 20120804-145416.jpg 20120804-145427.jpg We caught Cod, halibut, yellow eye and silver salmon today on our saltwater fishing trip. Mixed bags are often caught when you book a saltwater trip in Alaska. 20120804-145438.jpg 20120804-145443.jpg Between the halibut and many other species available, the scenery, and a personable captain, saltwater fishing in alaska makes for A great day on the water.  We use reliable and quality captains for our saltwater fishing and if you are interested we will be happy to line a trip up for you while you are here. saltwater fishing in seward alaska

Our trip this morning started off out of the seward harbor. During our hour And a half long boat ride out to the fishing grounds we witnessed the most beautiful surroundings. Here are a couple pictures of some scenery Along the way. 20120803-170655.jpg 20120803-170719.jpg 20120803-170741.jpg 20120803-170813.jpg 20120803-170847.jpg 20120803-170901.jpg I fished the fly rod a few hours today and caught a hand full of black bass and lost a few silver salmon. I just couldn’t get down to the halibut today. Sometimes the halibut will come to the surface if the conditions are right. I took lots of footage with the go pro camera today and forgot to use the still camera more than I should have of fish. I caught halibut, yellow eye, lingcod, black bass, and a few other species of cod fish today on our outing. here is a picture of a nice yellow eye I caught today! 20120803-171703.jpg Today was calm, sunny and flat out beautiful on the water. This is rare for saltwater fishing in Seward alaska but these days do happen. What a lucky group we had out today! 20120803-172050.jpg We are just now headed back in off the water so I’ll post a pic of the rest of the fish some other time. Tight lines and if you would like the opportunity to try something like this for yourself let us line you up. Give us a call at 907-382-6808 or check us out at www.driftingonthefly.com.

If you are visiting the Alaska in the fall and the weather is right for you, Homer alaska Lingcod and halibut fishing can be very good.  Be sure to dress for a colder days of fishing though. You can always take off layers but if you don’t have them you cant put them on!  Be prepared for 25 – 50 degrees after mid September.  This is my best lingcod to date! 60+ pounds!

Just because it’s getting a little cold doesn’t mean that there are not some great fishing opportunities on the Kenai peninsula. We had a great day in late Sept. and the best part was that we were the only boat out there!  Weather in the fall can be very unpredictable.  You line up a saltwater trip and get blown off due to weather we will be happy to replace your day with a trip on the Kenai river.  We will do the best we can to make your trip as fish filled as possible tight lines and keep saltwater fishing in mind on your next fall trip to Alaska! Homer Alaska Halibut Fishing

A day in Homer Alaska halibut fishing when you are visiting the Kenai Peninsula can be very rewarding and add some weight to the fish box. My saltwater captians and I have been working together for a few years now and he has never shown a client a bad trip. Yesterday I had a chance to take my uncle Fred Sager out and even in inclement weather he still worked to get us into nice halibut. halibut-fishing-alaska A few average fish and a couple of nicer fish made for a good box of fish for my Uncle to take home a share with the family. On a trip out on the boat make sure, even if the weather is nice that you take plenty of extra cloths. Saturday could have been miserable if we were not dressed properly! saltwater-king-salmon-fishing-alaska After getting your halibut in the box if time allows Tim will try to get you into some king salmon when they are available. Nothing like a Captain will to go the extra mile for you when your on a trip of a lifetime! Thanks Tim, If your interested in adding a day on the saltwater on your next trip to kenai peninsula, Alaska. Let us know and we will be happy to line you up with one of the most experienced captains.  Also if you are interested in a Kenai or Kasilof river guide trip we will gladly hook you up there too. Homer King Salmon Derby

copy-of-hunting-069.jpgcopy-of-hunting-068.jpg copy-of-hunting-064.jpg Due to bad weather the winter Homer king salmon derby was delayed until this past sunday.  There were 792 fishermen in the derby and 92 fish caught.  The odds don’t sound very good but there were 20 more fish caught this year than last year.  Boats are lined up along the bluff trolling for the Homer king salmon derby winning fish.  The fishing isn’t fast and furious but what a great place to spend the day on the water.   I fished with some good friends from around the Kenai Peninsula.  We had a great day but ended up with no king salmon on the boat.  It was a great way to get out and spend the day on the water and I highly recommend it to anyone that would like to experience Alaskas fishing.  There is not a lot of fishing going on the Kenai peninsula this early in the spring and it gives us a chance to get out and get a line wet.  If you would like to participate in the Homer king salmon derby contact me at www.driftingonthefly.com and I will get you lined up.
